Peak1 Cobra Question “I need to know how to keep the fly off the end of the tent where my feet are. ANy one have any plans ore ideas. Someone mentioned staking out with bungee cords but I am a little unclear about that. Need a little help on this one... Thanks, Sparky I still LOVE this tent!!!” 7:21:14 PM 3/12/02 “Search the treads for "cobra" and "inyo". Several different fixes have been given in detail. Some involved adding loops and guys and some involved adding a hoop at the foot.” 9:02:04 PM 3/12/02 I found this on an old thread... “"Instructions for adding "hoop" at foot of tent. I bought some Pipe at Lowe's, The pipe which is milky white in color is the kind used for making small waterline connections like tiolet supply lines etc. It actually is used to replace the small gray tubing that is used for water connections to sinks etc. I got a five ft. section (under $2) and cut it into 4 sections each 14 inches long, this way it will fit into the tent pole bag. Using the same type of pipe I found a larger diameter size and bought a small piece ( under$1), I cut three 2 inch pieces and used them to couple the long pieces together. The tubing for the longer pieces is about the size of your little finger, maybe smaller. The pipe is flexible enough to bend into a semi circle shape but still stiff enough to hold up the fly when it is wet. The fly on the cobra has two loops sewn on the underside down near the foot of the tent, I just pass the hoop thru the loops and push the ends into the groud, the hoop adds about 5 to 6 inches of clearance between the netting and the fly. The tubing is very light weight. Also just for more info. about the tent, I'm 5'9'' and can sit up in the tent comfortably. The vestibles are big enough to hold my pack (Jansport Alaska)." I have the inyo 2 and I think it's a great tent! 8)” 10:15:29 PM 3/12/02 “Instead of hooking the fly to the rings at the end, Tie a bit of cord to the fly and stake it out further. Super Troll recommends bungie cord but see what works best for you.” 10:47:22 PM 3/12/02 “Thanks guys... I am going to give both the hoop and the restaking a try once it quits raining here and the ground and hold stakes.... I appreciate it! Sparky!” 6:31:13 AM 3/13/02 “Phil - How do you like your "Jansport Alaska?"I have one, too. I found the carrying comfort worth the extra weight. But, on a Jansport w/an external frame and more pockets, I found it easier to organize and to locate things.” 7:27:01 AM 3/13/02 “Oops! Sorry Phil. I guess it is ZEP who has the "Jansport Alaska."” 7:32:51 AM 3/13/02 Bungee “Make two loops of bungee cord about 8 inches long, and use them to stake out the fly (Requires two additional stakes). The bungee applies constant tension to the fly, and we all know how flys tend to sag in the rain...Bungee will keep the fly tight as it expands and contracts in the weather.” 8:33:47 AM 3/13/02 “OH, I get it now.. .duh! I did not undertand the bungee cord but now I do.. I am going to look for some tomorrow and give it a try... Thanks Super troll! Sparky” 12:28:12 PM 3/13/02 “Set it up in the rain. You'll probably have to do it sooner or later any way.” 6:06:23 PM 3/13/02 “Good point! 8) I like your idea. 8)” 6:11:30 PM 3/13/02 “I would but my lawn reminds me of a florida swamp. So I am hoping it will be dry enough to stake out my tent... I walked on it this morning and water came oozing out around my feet, so the ground won't hold the stakes...” 6:22:09 AM 3/14/02 “Sounds like you got lots of rain! 8|” 6:25:21 AM 3/14/02 “get another tent.” 6:35:12 PM 3/14/02 “Get a new lawn! 8)” 6:41:52 PM 3/14/02 “Radagast, that would almost be sacreligious if I was even to think that... I LOVE this tent... Crazy.. I am getting a new lawn this summer.. I am moving from VA to PA.... and we are going to buy a home and one of the things it must have is a good place to stow my BP gear and set up my tent... one must have their priorities you know 8)” 8:40:58 PM 3/14/02 “That sounds like a good plan. In my house the best room in the house is the gear room / office. That is where I am 70% of the time. 20%sleeping. I think thats how it goes. 8) 10%at work.” 8:49:12 PM 3/14/02 “My office is also where I store a lot of my backpacking stuff. Priorities you know!” 9:36:24 PM 3/14/02 “Backpacking is a top Priority for me almost all the time. And then there is work & sleep and stuff like that. 8)” 5:16:05 AM 3/15/02 “I got the hoop at Home Depot last night along with the bunge cords.. Hoop cost me $2 and bungees $4. I will let you kow how it worked out... I have to take my car to the garage today but tomorrow I am giving it a tray... I will take pics and let you all know how it worked out.. (don't you love digital cameras, plus I am trying to justify the cost to the wife.. 8) Sparky” 8:02:07 AM 3/15/02
