Maybe somebody's spouse on this board is going to come home one day to find a bunch of gear missing!

If camping is not their cup of tea, I guess backpacking is totally out of question.

Shouldn't they have realized this before accumualting all of this?

Maybe the backpack that they are selling didn't fit right.

One trip certainly wasn't giving it much of a chance, for all the money that they spent.

that's some good gear...seems like someone new to the game with lotsa money, was told what to get, got it all at once..and didn't know the outdoors doesn't have room service..the sleeping bag alone is around 450$'s...shesh...please say someone here has the dough to pick up this great orphaned gear...what a buy!!

Maybe he's just saying camping isn't his cup of tea and just wants to replace the gear for something else. Maybe a Golite breeze pack and everything that goes with it.

Flea markets, garage sales...
Flea markets, garage sales and internet sales are a hotbed for selling stolen items.

There's teams of B and E artists roving around, backing up their trucks to victims houses and hauling everything away.

One of friends got his house broken into...those fockers even took his used tooth paste and underarm deordorent.

Maybe the gear is hot or somebody really needs some quick cash. Are we pathetic or what? Setting around trying to guess what happened to this poor soul. Pretty fun though.

If It Quacks Like A Duck
Hot? Maybe. But it also sounds like it's too good to pass up. I'll bet there'll be more than one person who'll be suckered into sending the money in ernst, to receive nothing in return.

This is too funny. Reminds me of the honeymooners I ran into in GSMNP last year. Brand-new equipment, the largest and heaviest backpacks I have ever seen. It took both of them to carry one of the packs when they needed to move them around at the shelter. They were packed for 11 days and had planned no food drops or resupplies at all. I'll bet their stuff was on ebay when they got home to Manhattan. LMAO!

The petzl is for keeping the fries warm.

Paypal will NOT protect you from fraud. Matter of fact their policies encourage it. If you do a little research you will find thay have a horrible customer service record in that area.

Scared poopless?
richb is totally right. Some guy on BPer.com got all his stuff jacked. I offered him a free Primus stove, but no reply. If this gear is not hot maybe he camped and a deer bedded down next to his tent; all the while envisioning every critter that could make a meal of him. It happened on my first solo-hike when I was much greener than now; scared the poo out of me, especially in bear country!

wow, sounds too good to be true. You'd think, if it really was a backpacker wannabe selling this stuff, he's offer it to his backpacking friends. As someone said, he obviously knew what to buy...otherwise it would be all Coleman, all the time.

Somebody got screwed on this, or is gonna be...
and not in that oh-so-pleasin' sort of way, neitha!

Although not a backpacker, my sister was camping with her husband and kids. They had a bad experience, (although my family grew up camping.) After the first night they packed up all their new gear, shipped it home and spent the rest of the time in a motel with a pool! My sister has no idea where that gear is!

I agree with WS 850 is not really a bargain for that collection of material, used. If I had exactly 850 to spend and all my gear had been stolen and I needed to start from scratch, I still wouldn't go for it.

I don't really think the stuff was stolen. People with more money than sense do this all the time. Look at the ads for used motorcycles sometime, $20,000 bikes 2-3 years old with less than 1500 miles. Some people just can't handle wet and cold no matter how much fun it looks like on tv.

I'm sure it would have sold fine if it wasn't lumped together in one package. If it was stolen goods, it probably would have been sold in pieces. It probably was part of a divorce settlement. I've seen people in divorce cases insist that they receive the teenage kids' sporting goods, cars, etc. in the settlement and then they actually sell that stuff rather than keeping it for the kids.
