Owwwwwwww!” 2:08:24 PM 6/13/02 “Whoever the promoters are sure haven't pushed it. This is the first thing I have heard about it and I live in Nashville. Only thing you hear about now is "Country Music Fan Fair". It is everywhere..yuck” 2:48:59 PM 6/13/02 “Isn't the Bonaroo Music Festival actually in Manchester?” 2:52:48 PM 6/13/02 Yes...Bonnaroo Is In Manchester “My buddy lived in Nashville and we're staying at one of his friend's house on Thurs night. Then heading SW to Manchester bright and early Friday. Lots more bands added to the bill including Bela Fleck and Edgar Meyer, and Colonel Claypool's Bucket of Bernie Brains, among mannnny others.” 3:00:16 PM 6/13/02 “According to the web site it is sold out. They say if you don't have tickets "Please don't show up" I noticed you can get them from scalpers on the net and I bet someone will be in Manchester selling them. Bonnaroo Music Festival” 3:14:10 PM 6/13/02 “Buddur, I noticed that the North Mississippi All Stars will be there. Sounds like you are in for a good weekend.” 3:25:06 PM 6/13/02 I Got My Ticket Back In March “The lineup is insane to say the least, greater than of Woodstock proportions...it'll be one tireing weekend. But well worth it!” 4:59:19 PM 6/13/02 “There are four people from our office that can't get out of Manchester today. Supposedly there are 100,000 trying to leave and traffic has been stopped all day. I wonder how Buddur is doing.” 3:07:50 PM 6/24/02 “Perhaps he became one of the mud people.” 8:35:48 PM 6/24/02 I Survived... “Had a freakin blast!!! Lots of traffic last night... so we left around 5:30am this morning and it only took us 1hr 45min to get on the highway 24. Got lots of unpacking to do, but HAD to get a quick TT fix. A brief writeup will follow...when I can get to it.” 9:03:16 PM 6/24/02 “heh.. I heard that SmokiesGirl and SonicJill went.” 10:21:23 PM 6/24/02 “Those from our office that went look a little fried this morning. But they all declare they are ready to go back.” 9:56:55 AM 6/25/02 “chili...fried,geeked,or sketched out. Hope your comp doesn't random...LMAO” 12:28:50 PM 6/25/02 “It does. There are some nervous looking people here today.” 12:32:40 PM 6/25/02 I'll Entertain Any And All Questions “Bonnaroo Music Festival, Manchester, TN, June 21-23 Day 1 – The Drive Off work @ 2:30 and on road by 4pm. Left Pa and got to Akron, OH by 5:30, and visited some friends until hooking up with others for the trip. We were on the road in a 3-car caravan by 8:30pm and drove ALL NIGHT. Hooked up with 2 more cars of friends in Manchester at a motel sometime between 8-9am, and got in line to enter the concert grounds on a huge farm by 11pm. We were lucky…it took us 2 hours in line to enter and get to our campsite, whereas others who arrived later waited up to 11 hours. Walked around and got a feel for the place. There were 4 venues, the Theatre, the Ballroom (both were pavilions of about 1-1.5 acres in size), the Arena (a large outdoor stage and grassy area), and the Stadium (a humungous stage and grassy area). An arcade, a Gateway tent where you could Email folks, and download songs of the bands and burn them onto an official Bonnaroo CD, lots of food stands, and other necessities everybody needs to survive for 3 days and nights. Day 2 – The Flames The next morning there was an incident. I had heated water for coffee with success with my buddy’s Coleman stove, then Mary wanted tea but had a small teapot to heat water, so I started the stove and put the flames on low. Well the flame went out, so I checked and the stove was cool enough to re-light. Well it lit alright, with flames more than 2-feet high. I took off the fuel tank, but that didn’t help. I used a plate and fanned the flames away from the canopy, to no avail. Had to wisk away all items off of table to get stove off and onto the ground. By that time the flames were as tall as me, and I had to pull the stove out form under the canopy to keep the roof from catching aflame. Water put the flame out…finally…leaving a large hole burnt into the side bug-netting of the canopy, and some melting of the netting near the doorway. Brian, who owned the stove, got up from the ruckus to tell us the stove is broken. Of course he didn’t let anyone know that if you didn’t put the tank and carburator rod in/on just right it’ll spit out fuel. Btw - I have the same stove and know how to work it…and believe me, his stove is f-ed up!!! Anywho, noone got hurt…just the canopy. Lots of bands to see that day, and I quickly came to the conclusion that I will try to see a little bit of ALL of the rather than just the ones I already saw before and knew I liked. However, seeing all of them turned out to be almost impossible. I saw some of The Big Wu, Jim White, Old Crow Medicine Show, Dirty Dozen Brass Band, Donna The Buffalo, Unphrey’s McGee, Soulive, I’ve seen Les Claypool’s Flying Frog Brigade 3 times already, so I left them alone), Acoustic Syndicate, Gran Torino, and saw all of Gov’t Mule’s set. Later that night I switched between Keller William’s Incident, and Karl Denison’t Tiny Universe. Day 3 – Saturday, June 22 Saw Llama, Del McCoury Band (saw All of this show), Col Bruce Hampton & The Code Talkers, Drums & Tuba, Robert Randolf & The Family Band, Ben Harper, Particle, Lil’Rascles Brass Band, Col Claypools Bucket Of Bernie Brains (I dug Particle, but left to see 1 tune from Lil rascles, took a squirt, ate a little and went back to Particle to wait for my first Buckethead experience…@ <10 feet in front of him and packed in like sardines). Had to take a break after that show, so I took the rest of the day off and went back around 12 midnight to see a split between Galactic and Moe. Day 4 – Sunday June 23 Saw Robert Randolf, Mofro, Cambell Brothers (awesome Gospel troup), Rana, North Mississippi Allstars, Ween, Bela Fleck & Edgar Meyers (saw whole set…second time seeing them…just as awesome to say the least), Phil Lesh and Friends w/Bob Wier (hated to leave the show but wanted to see Superjam), Superjam that had Bela, Robert Randolf, guitar-bass-drums-mandolin from String cheese, bass from Robert Randolf, DJ Logic, and others…this turned out to be one of the highlights of the whole weekend. Then Trey Anastasio at the end of the day. Wanted to leave that night but traffic was crazy. So we opted to get up @ 5:30, but due to other’s wacked out heads, we got on the road by 6:15am. Took us ~2 hours to get out of the traffic and onto Highway 24 for the ride home. I missed more bands than I planned, and one was the Widespread Panic set which Steve Winwood sat in and they did a bunch of Traffic tunes. Oh well, I saw more music than I originally planned…and it was worth the trip.” 8:48:55 PM 6/27/02 Buddur “Glad you had a good time in Manchester. The Nashville local paper gave the outing a positive review, said there was a few arrest and some minor problems but nothing big. Talk is it will probably be there next yr. They did say the traffic was the biggest problem but they will work on that.” 11:16:29 PM 6/27/02 “anyone know where i can download some of the stuff? im sure most of the bands allowed taping so it's got to be out there somewhere. thank you” 2:06:33 AM 6/28/02 Download Music “Go to www.bonnaroo.com, scroll down and click on "Friends of Bonnaroo" on the left side of screen, click on the "Gateway/Bonnaroo" link, so far, there are 3 songs that I can see...and I'm downloading one as I write” 4:31:13 AM 6/28/02 “Wow - sounds like I am out of touch with the music scene. I did not recognize many of those bands/performers. Sounds like a blast.” 6:19:27 AM 6/28/02 Me Too! “I never heard of half of them either...that's why I tried to see as many of them as possible. Lots of good unrecognized music out there!” 1:39:09 PM 6/28/02 Gotta Plan Ahead For These Events, Ya Know “Just wondering if anybody is thinking about going to this years Bonnaroo? The lineup has not been released yet, but from last year's positive turnout I'm sure this year will be kickass. And because I'm off my proverbial "ball and chain" on 5/10 I'm also planning to hit WV's All Good festival on 5/15-5/18. It'll be goooooood times for all!!!” 9:11:07 AM 2/09/03 “Just checked out the band list for the WV show.
