Yellowstone backcountry ski/pack trip.
Three of us are skiing into the Yellowstone backcountry later this week. The plan is to ski up the Cache Creek trail from the Lamar River in the northeast corner of the park and spend three days winter camping. There's a small thermal area there called Wahb Springs located up Death Gulch. Apparently, Death Gulch was named for the un-respirable gas that, according to a guidebook, "has killed everything from sparrows to bears." Wahb Springs is named for the bear in Ernest Thomphson Seton's story, "Biography of a Grizzly." In Seton's story, when Wahb knew his time was up, the huge, old grizzly came to this deadly gulch to die. We'll observe it from a distance on this trip.

I haven't winter camped in below zero weather for awhile so pack weight be damned! Temps are supposed to be lows of -10 to 0, highs of teens to 20's. Pictures to follow!
