The Fargin Pain “Well the title is self explanatory. I know this may not be the site to discuss this but I figured since we have discussed just about everything under the sun in one form or another I thought I would bring this to your attention to find out if others have ever shared the joyful pain that I went thru the other morning. I had severe pain the other morning like you would not beleive. All you mothers,,, I can kinda understand what you mean by pain. It all started shortly after my morning deposits at the comode. Moments after finishing what was a rather disappointing defecation, the pain hit me like a Mack truck. I'll spare you all the hour or so of heavy panting, the dry vomiting, the false urination alarms and shrinkage and the amazing discomfort (thats putting it gentle) that I could nothing to relieve. I tried everything short of smashing my head between the toilet seats to get my mind off the dull, presistent pain that was eminating from my right kidney area. Ironicly, help arrived just as the pain was subsiding an hour after the backup call was put in, thanks pops!! We headed for the urologist office that had been for warned of my plight. The pain was still there but it was nothing like it was an hour before. The examination went pretty smoothly. What sample I was able to dribble out provided some convincing evidence that something was wrong. The Dr. gave me some prescriptions, Cipro to fight infection and Vicodin for the pain and sent me on my way. I will hopefully know more come Thursday morning after some test at the hospital to find out if what ails me is stones or something else. Just curious if any of you ladies and gent's out there have had anything like this? O' by the way I'm not much of a pill freak but that Vicodin kicks a$$.” 8:28:30 AM 3/20/02 “I haven't gone through this myself, but a close friend did a couple years ago. The stories I heard painted a similar picture to what you describe. Hope the worst of it is behind you. Beware of the shunt and pull cord!! LOL” 8:40:08 AM 3/20/02 “Yep, been there done that ...they suck!” 8:59:22 AM 3/20/02 “Mine was a gall stone rather than a kidney stone, but the rest of the description is similar. I described it to the EMT as last stages labor pain without the baby. The pain was, of course, almost gone by the time a doctor examined me at the emergency room, just to make the incident more embarrassing. Happened after eating a small snack of cheddar cheese and pepperoni. So pay attention to how you feel after eating that stuff if you are going to eat it on the trail for lunch. If you experience a little stomach or abdominal discomfort, cut waxy cheese and cured fatty meat out of your diet to be kind to your gall bladder.” 9:33:01 AM 3/20/02 Cautions !!!! “been there done that....two times ! find out what is causing these. mine was calicium based so I cut back on milk products... but I didn't think about "tums" for my ulcers... mine stayed with me for 3 days each time..1 st time hospitaled me for 3 days nurses's said they had babies and stones both would rather have babies! hang tough drink cranberry juice! I feel for you man!! I just hope I don't get one of these out on the trail !! always take a pain killer for that reason. from now on you should also.” 10:03:58 AM 3/20/02 “OUCH!!!!!! 8(” 11:43:45 AM 3/20/02 What a pisser! “My father had several of them years ago before he started watching his diet. He's a real tough guy and can deal with a lot of pain (he's had spinal arthritis since he was 19) but the stones really whacked him. He wasn't able to pass the last one and they ended up nearly sawing him in half to get it out. Of course nowadays they have ultrasonic and wouldn't need the knife. If that's what you have, follow your doctor's dietary advice.” 12:47:08 PM 3/20/02 Been there.... “Lat fall I had a bout with them as well. Too much protiene and super hot temps without enough water - although I drink it all the time. Woke up in the middle of the night and hurt like hell, couldn't stop the pain so my wife took me to the hospital. The nurse immediately said it was kidney stones, tapped me gently on the back to check it - it felt like Mike Tyson punched me in the kidney. Those things suck.” 4:01:09 PM 3/20/02 “Well, I've never had kidney stones but you have my sympathies. I hope you get better very soon!” 4:10:46 PM 3/20/02 “Milk and cheese? "Calcium Rich" Rolaids? uh oh. Maybe I should go for a round or two with a lithotriptor 'just in case'.” 4:58:33 PM 3/20/02 “Been there done that. Worst pain of my life. Couldn't find a confortable position. I could not pass mine and had to have surgery. They put a stint in from by bladder to my kidney. I had promised a bunch of cubscouts I would take them hiking and I hiked about 4 miles with the stint still in. Big mistake, but I kelp my word. Removing the stint wasn't any fun, but not nearly as bad as the stone. I was constantly reminded that "now you know what women go through during childbirth" my reply "Women get saddleblocks, I had mine natural" Best of luck, I could be worse your trailname could be peegravel BAMA” 6:21:38 PM 3/20/02 “OUCH OUCH!!!!!!!!! My god!!!!! 8O Pain!!!!!” 6:28:58 PM 3/20/02 12 posts for this and over 30 for a dog? “Well Wabbit,.. what does that say about us?LOL TT has gone to the dogs! Get well soon Wabbit!” 6:49:29 PM 3/20/02 “Welcome to the club, October of last year, woke up at 3:30 AM, feeling like a trip to the john, the pain was unbelievable, dry heaves, bloody urine, the whole shooting match. When I nearly passed out at 6:30 I decided that enought was enought and called a buddy up for a quick trip to the emergency room. The thing was I knew I had one huge stone because of the test that I had went through a few days before, IVP I think it was called. But the doctor said that it was so huge 3/8 x 1/2 inch that it would never pass so I wanted to wait until after the first of the year to have it removed. I guess they must be like babies they come out when they want to, spent three days in hospital, and they used ultrasound to smash it. $31,000 + later (thank God for insurance) I'm much better, the stint wasnt much fun either. And like someone said, I had a lady tell me that she had two kids and one stone and would take another kid anytime rather than another stone. Good luck PS pain is a killer on the blood preasure too, at one time mine hit 240 over 190. Morphine is a God send.” 7:02:14 PM 3/20/02 “You know BF I was thinking the same thing,,,,LOL funny ain't. It does make one wonder.... Well I had some LUCK today at around 3 this afternoon I was able to pass a little cystalized chunk about the size of a 'GrapeNuts' kernal that was caught in the filter the Dr. gave me. That part was painless. I beleive the pain I had the other morning was the stone exiting the kidney in route to the bladder where it laid low for awhile. I was all :)'s when I saw that. I am still set up for the IVP test in the morning to make sure all is clear. And I will also drop off the nugget at the Dr.'s for further examation. I'm curious to find out its composition. Pemsit, WOW, I had no idea it could even be that costly or that big. Fella's thanks for sharing and letting me join the club.” 9:25:55 PM 3/20/02 “Once they get to the bladder there pretty much over. The problem is the tube from the kidney to the bladder. Its like poking a golfball through a garden hose. The IVP is painless they lay you on a table and shoot dye in you veins ( at the arm ) then do a xray. Sounds like your trouble is pretty much over. Mine was pemsit's but only about a quarter inch to 3/8. My bill was only $14,000. Luckly I have good insurance. P.S. if you hear the words - basket or stint take a walk in front of a train. It will be less painfull that way. BAMA” 9:43:56 PM 3/20/02 “Dang ol` yellow dog even lied to us about her condition and still got more love and compassion shown to her than you got! That`s just sad! Ever wonder why you see the awful things you do on TV? It`s `cause people don`t care about people anymore, or have feelings for anyone outside of their tiny bunch of friends. Peope would rather see a darn spotted owl saved, or some snake rather than care about people starving, or being blown to hell and run out of their own countries. If it`s gotten this bad already in our time, what will it be like in our children`s lives. What have we done? I hope you get better real soon Wabbit!” 9:44:21 PM 3/20/02 “Bama,, I've heard the same thing!!!! LMAO BF, there is truth in your words Brother. A quick story about a dog lover I know. She had a black Cocker named Doobie that was giving deli meat to eat while the husband and kids were forced to eat weenies and beanies for dinner! I laugh everytime I think of that.” 10:24:52 PM 3/20/02 Club ? “welcome to the "club" nobody wants to belong to if their head is on right... I sure wish I didn't belong dumb me signed up twice ! 8-(” 7:37:32 AM 3/21/02
