Canoe trip in May

“I am 95% sure I will make this one. Work is crazy here but I have already put in for the vacation for Friday so count me in. I am going to catch a ride with Chili36 from Memphis so I am at the mercy and grace for getting off the river. I am looking for a partner it looks like chili36 and myself would make a natural pairing but I will not assume any thing but on any account I will need a set and I am happy to split the rent on a canoe etc. As far as drinking I do very little any more so I wont be a factor. As far as food one look at me and you will know I don’t snub my nose at much.

As far as any other details goes, it is all posted on this thread...costs...shuttles, phone numbers, etc...But, I will send out another bulk email to everyone. As far as food goes...bring whatever you want...its a shame watermelon won't be out, I make one heck of an electric pod. I will bring enough Jampalaya to feed an army. Ribs too. But we might need fixins. Potoe Salad, cole slaw. paper product...The more we can toss away, the less to wash up with. don't forget chairs to sit on...These are canoes that we have to carry our gear...not our backs. So...leave the ultralight mentality at home. We still need a cd playing boom box...who's got one? With new batteries...it will have to run 2 nights.

I would think that friday night will be used to set up the Canoes.

WD...60 is a 2 laner, 4 laner, 2 laner. It is under massive construction west of Poplar Bluff.

I will be taking a route through Arkansaw westward on Rt 412/62, then north on 63 at Hardyand then turning north again on 19. Speed is not an issue with me, since I had the deflector shields upgraded in my stealth car, the po-man can't see me. I'm indivisible.

Breakfasts are on Prowler...I will have pancake batter for ummmmmmm I think pancakes, syrup (not real maple syrup) and real butter...not marjerine. gallon of mile, orange juice...I'm gonna buy those, but I hope I get enough. Sonja...can you do the coffee in the am's PLEASE...camping coffee is not a specialty of mine...I can;t bring my espresso machine...too big.

Mixed drinks...yes, I can do those, I will make a gallon or two of marguritas, since no one has invented a battery operated blender...I think I saw a hand crank one, but Im not buying it...it will be liquid and VERY cold...will keep them submerged on ice. looks like we should rent a canoe just for the food and beverages...

Oh man, this will be as legendary as one of Mel's llamarama's. I might just make this an annual event.

For those getting off river on Sunday...just contact Kenny at the "11 points river canoe rentals and make the arrangements. the shuttles are either $15.00 or $20.00 (depending on put off point, but sunday will be $15.00) with 1 canoe rental...it sounds like we have the canoe rental covered...and then some.

OK...I went out to the 11 points this weekend to scout it out...oh man!!! is it gonna be nice...this is a beatiful place...trees, cliffs, birds, water...the river is spring fed, so it has this unearthly green/blue color. Awsome. the Campground at Greer is nice...not too large. Is there anyone that is going to be able to get there early in the day? Each site will hold either 6 or 8 people (I can;t remember which). So with the list that is already on, we will need 2 sites, if more show, then we will need 3. Or we could bend the rules and do what we want and play it by ear. But it would be good if someone could get there early...any volunteers?

It took me 2 hours 50 minutes, but I should be able to make it in 2 1/2 hours, it was pouring and that slowed me up some. But, I think that everyone should really like this place.

Chili, I still need to consult with Don, Ann you need to consult with Grunt...where is he coming in from?

sat morn, break camp, drive to Cane Bluff, where we will hit the water, gently but firmly and with reverence and respect, lol...I hope this will be @ 10:30 or earlier, depending upon wake up times and camp breakdown...Please...whoever is going to be there first...no eloborate base camps...STALKER!!! just a warm fire and welcome to all those arriving. We want to hit the water as early as possible, withing reason. As soon as I find out how many canoes we will need, I will (unless you all are going to contact Kenny on your own) contact Kenny and arrange for the canoes...payment is either a check or cash...Cane Bluff is not his office, but he can transact the deal anywhere.

After departing, I hope to get I'd like to get to Hurracain Creek (@20.4 mile marker) to camp for sat night. This is 11 miles from Cane Bluff, with playing and crap, I figure that will take us whatever it takes us...like I said before, time ceases to exist as soon as we hot the water, and it will not resume until it gets near departure times for people... or we can continue on and camp beyond, but, we will need time to set up camp, gather wood, and get the beach party going, so...thats the idea for sat night.

Sun, arise, eat breakfast (on Prowler)...depart, have fun, and for those departing sunday, let kenny know what time you to leave, so that he can tell you where to have your car shuttled to. you'll probably pay him on sat morn. and then we;ll all say goodbyes, and continue downriver to the Boze mill area (2 mile 33) or beyond. Set up camp for round 2 of the beach party. then monday, continue to the cars either at Riverton or the Narrows. It makes no difference to me. I will be flexible on this as I live fairly close and don't have to be anywhere till tuesday morning at work. Thats when time picks back up for me.

If someone doesn't bring a radio with cd player...so be it...you all just won't be able to hear the music with your ears. I think we will need some cook stoves...I have 3. I just came across a great recipe for a Black bean salsa...it was incredible...I think I might mix up a gallon container and bring nacho chips...its party time...I love a good party with LOTS of food, and drinks...music would be cool.

Does anyone have a mesh party tent that they could bring?, we can put the food under it at least and keep any bugs away.

“Having only glimpsed it during my recent hike, I am going to pressume that is is a mild river. no shoals, no whitewater, maybe a few icebergs, sharks, gators...no seriously...this should be a very smooth trip...no worries. I have no intention of tipping my canoe and no won't else should either.”

“I was doing some reading on rivers, and i started to worry. Does anyone know if this particular river has a "current"? if so, i may be in over my head on this one. sounds scary, big body of moving water and possibility of tipping into a bed of leeches. you think it will be okay, you know, safe?”

I deduced that these river species must be very strong and muscular to be able to swim against what may be a strong current. I presume that some of these fish may even be agressive. are there any certain physical movements or vocal sounds that i need to avoid exhibiting so as not to set off these fish, resulting in a possible attack? any advice that would help to ensure my safety would be greatly appreciated.”

“Sonja, the only advice that I can give you is to not do the Xena yell. If you yell like an Amazon Warrior, then the fish will all jump up and latch their jaws onto you and suck the marrow from your bones...of course we would dance and scream in a ring around your twitching body and in this way infuriate the fishes into a feeding frenzy that would surely finish you off sooner rather than later.

Other than that, you should be ok.”
