From what I've heard about the prior history of those two wrt their dogs, the Husband was the worst of the two wrt attitude and total disregard for others. IMO, he got off easy.”

I have never been in a hiking situation where a dog was present that I did not have to make special exception for the dog.

I have rarely been in a hiking situation with humans that did not require a special exceptions, but most humans have a level of understanding that dogs, and evidently dog owners do not possess.”

“This kind of case seems like it would make every one think twice about owning a dog. First of all is the resposibility. How do you know you can trust the dog, and that it will not draw you into a lawsuit. Here's my plug for dog obedience classes. I do trust my dog not to "draw me into a lawsuit" . The classe are cheap and well worth it. They work!! If you are going to get a dog, at least put this small investment into it.

“You know it is unfortunate that many equate a certain type of dog with vicious. The dog would have to have been trained to be vicious. One of the gentlest, nicest dogs I know is a rotweiller. German shepards are very nice dogs, yet in WWII they were used by the germans as vicious attack dogs. I know another Pit bull that is very well mannered. These dogs are all very smart and easily trained. Some breeds are very muscular and powerful. The breed of the dog has little to do with the viciousness, however a powerful dog taught be mean is akin to teaching a 280 lb. muscular man karate and giving him a bad attitude.

A yorkshire terrier can do quite a bit of damage with his sharp little teeth, and some have, yet they don't get the bad press a large dog does, simply because they are not big or powerful enough to cause death. Has anyone looked at a boxer? They are ALL muscle, high energy, and very agressive. Yet, I haven't heard the cries to ban them. They are thought of as a fine family dog, not a fighter. But I'm telling you, they can be ferocious fighters, is so trained.

Uh, ... I guess I sort of sound like those NRA types, Guns don't kill people, people do. I'm saying some breeds aren't bad, only wrongly trained dogs are. My, my, my....”

But I think it's pretty ironic that someone who has proven to be consistently abrasive, shown little affection and make heartfelt remarks to TTers without consideration, and has shown himself to just not care as much as others (you gotta admit, he's pissed alot of people here off) on this board to make such remarks. His attitude has shown (to me) that he just doesn't give a darn about most people, what they think and how they feel (I know...that's old news). Imo, he fits well into the category of The attitude of the defendents compares to some of the dog owners I have encountered on this website regardless if he owns a dog or not. I'd be more weary of encountering him in a bad mood than a dog anyday.
