Just drove from northern Utah to Portland and home again via I-84. First time for me, and I can't believe the beauty of this place between Hood River and Portland. Wow! Anyone ever spend time there hiking? Any good trails? I didn't get off the highway as I was working (big rig weekend) but I was really wanting to stop and do some exploring. Perhaps I'll plan a trip that way one day.

Yup, going back there in 2 weeks
I hiked up the trials at W-whatever? Falls and Horse Tail Falls. Then I went out and bought a map and drove up in the area on top of the falls. There are tons of hiking trails up there! Unfortunatly, there is too much snow up there to hike right now (the roads are closed above 3500 ft). BUT, I got some snow shoes for my Birthday and I am dying to try them out. You're right, it is beautiful up there Hobbit!

I had to laugh a bit as I drove over the top of Cabbage (Blue Mountains) and saw the sign that said "Summit 4120 ft.". They are beautiful mountains, with some very beautiful terrain, but everything is relative I've decided. The desert floor where I live, which is populated by not much other than june grass and sagebrush, is higher than that at 4290 feet. I drove through a blizzard on Cabbage Saturday about noon that had me a bit concerned, especially when the stupid lady pulling the 53 foot refer tried to pass me in the slush and her trailer almost beat her tractor around me. I think she was a bit concerned herself, but unfortunately it didn't slow her down much.

Along the scenic highway around Multnomah Falls there are trails that criss cross the entire area connecting to about a dozen waterfalls. Including Wahkeena and Horsetail. Gorgeous area. You can make your hikes long and difficult or short and easy depending on what you want. I did a video on the scenic highway when I was in college. It's amazing how much I actually remember from that. Any more questions?

The Oregon side is purty. It is a vertitable land of milk, low taxes and honey. The Warshington side is not. Ugly, rude people, high taxes and un-leashed trail dogs running rampant. We are nearing completion of a dam which will flood the entire Gorge. Nothing to look at, folks. Move along.

Hey, have you visited Arkansas? I hear it's loverly.

Multnomah (say that three times fast) looked like a pretty area. Thanks for the info MM. I'm definately going to put this area on my itinerary for my PNW walkabout this summer.

The windsurfing sucks, like kleetn said stay away.

Ok, so it's one of my favorite spots to windsurf and I go there at least once a year for a week. Maui and Nitnat Lake in BC also rock for windsurfing. ya, ya they're even better so go there instead!
