Try Wings
I gotta agree that making a stove is a great way to start. Save yourself 1-2 pouns of weight and $50-$100. Most backpackers carry stoves made for extreme condidiotns but never need the full potiential of thier stoves.

I suggest trying Wings, and of course my site!

I use my Trangia alcohol stove for Spring, Summer & Fall (great for boiling H2O, and some cooking/simmering). In winter, my Coleman Peak1 heats faster. Stay away from butane/propane cannister stoves in sub-freezing temps.

walkin', yeah I agree 'bout the Esbitt. It saved me several ounces over my Coleman peak 1. The peak 1 is a good stove to use if you plan to do more cooking than hot water though. Many factors to consider when you make your choice. Do what alot of folks do and try one of each type at the store. It will help you make your decision.

After watching Le Subtil use his in chilly conditions this past weekend, I was impressed by the simplicity and functionality of the Esbit stove. Enough to buy my own on the drive home. Of course that just means I own five stoves with four different fuel types.

I got a Butane, Esbit, Zip, & Pepsican stove. Not one single White gas stove. I just don't trust them bastads.
