I have heard legends about an organization of extremely wealthy men who supposebly are in charge of a "one-world government." They are also supposebly satanic and stuff. They also supposebly hide a lot of hidden messages and stuff. Does anyone know anything more about this?

The Illuminati are the DESCENDANTS OF REPTILIAN ALIENS who messed with human DNA and created the Illuminati to RULE THE WORLD. All rulers in the world today are directly related, KEEPING THE BLOODLINE PURE for these reptilians to continue in control. They shape-shift, and if you catch them at the right moment, you can see them change into reptiles and QUICKLY CHANGE BACK into their human form.

My mom introduced me to this and I sort of expanded and researched it myself. My history teacher said that while all of it might not be true, there is definatly something to it. He wouldn't specify, though. They aren't aloud to specifically say anything about it.

I truely beleive they exist. My mom beleives they are real too. In fact, I beleive the whole “War on Terrorism” thing and what started it etc, etc, is their work.

I suggest you read "Proofs of a Conspiracy" and judge for yourself. You can find reprints of it lots of places. It was written in 1789 by Robison I believe.

A refutation by freemasonry is not any big surprise since the book has them involved with the conspiracy. Naturally they would want to refute that.

The Illuminati Exposed
Mysterious Beginnings
(1) Islamic Parallels

"Sufi historian Indries Shah traces the name of the Illuminati back to a verse in the Koran which mentions a shining star..."
- Robert Anton Wilson, Cosmic Trigger

"The sixteenth century saw the rise of a powerful society based upon a secret cult, in the mountains of Afghanistan - the Roshaniya, Illuminated ones."
"The earliest figure named in the history of the cult is one Bayezid Ansari, of Afghanistan, whose family claimed descent from the Ansar - the 'Helpers', who assisted Mohammed after his flight from Mecca nearly fourteen hundred years ago. As a reward for this service, he stated, his ancestors had been granted initiation into the mysteries of the Ishmaelite religion: the secret, inner training which dated from Abraham's rebuilding of the Temple at Mecca, the mystical Hiram."
"Not far from Peshawar, which is now in the north-west of Pakistan, Bayezid set up a small school, where he carefully coached those who had been initiated by him in the knowledge of the supernatural that he claimed. A period of probation was expected from each candidate, during which he would to into periods of concealment or meditation, known as khilwat - silence. During this time he was to receive the illumination which was emanated from the supreme being, who desired a class of perfect men- and women- to carry out the organization and direction of the world."

Merchants and soldiers "contributed lavishly to the chief's upkeep and his most expensive military, political and espionage system." At this stage of success, Bayezid now preached that there was "no after-life of the kind currently believed in: no reward or punishment, only a spirit state which was completely different from earthly life. The spirits, if they belonged to the Order, could continue to enjoy themselves and be earthly powers, acting through living members....Eat, drink and be merry. Gain power, look after yourself. You have no allegiance except to the Order, he told them: and all humanity which cannot identify itself by our secret sign is our lawful prey."

Forty years after the last religio-military leader of the Afghan Illuminate Ones died, a society of the same name (the Illuminati) came into being in Germany, formed, it is said, by Adam Weishaupt, the young professor of Canon Law at Ingolstadt University. Coincidences of date and beliefs connect these Bavarian Illuminati with the Afghan ones, and also with other cults which called themselves 'Illuminated'."
- Arkon Daraul, Secret Societies

Someone has pointed out that in Mary Shelly's novel Frankenstein, Victor Frankenstein was also in Ingoldstatdt around 1790 creating his famous monster. "Coincidence...or was there something Mary Shelly was trying to tell us?"

It amazes me how much BS has been printed about the Illuminati. It WAS a real secret society in the 1700's (ya know, the Enlightenment) and was a free thought society. During the enlightenment "Secret Societies" were all the rage and everyone who fancied themselves as an intellectual just had to be a part of one. All the world domination claptrap seems to lately stem from a game by Steve Jackson games that has been out for a very long time.

The Illuminati
The Order of the Illuminati, a secret society whose name means "Enlightened Ones," was founded in 1776 by Adam Weishaupt (1748-1830), a former Jesuit and professor of canon law at the University of Ingolstadt.
Specific knowledge about the society is scarce. The Order of the Illuminati was established with some unspecified ties to the Masonic lodges of Germany; as a secret society within a secret society, the Illuminati have produced at least as many myths as verifiable facts. The sympathies and beliefes of Weishaupt himself, for instance, have been claimed by countless groups -- atheists, Cabalists, rationalists, democrats, socialists, anarchists. Some trace the Illuminati back to the Knights Templar, to Gnostic cults, to ancient Egypt, and even to Atlantis. In the 1790s, some credited (or blamed) the society with manipulating the American and French Revolutions. In the United States, Federalists encouraged people to believe Thomas Jefferson and the Democratic Republican Party were controlled by the Illuminati in Europe.

It is not strictly necessary to disentangle fact from fiction, since the influence of the Order was greater in legend than in fact. But several things can be stated about the Illuminati with some degree of certainty. The two central figures in the organization were Weishaupt and Adolph Franz Friedrich Ludwid Baron Von Knigge. The members of the Illuminati are known to have favored free-thinking and radical politics, and were often alleged to have ties with Jacobins (Weishaupt and the Illuminati are discussed in Abbé Barruel's History of Jacobinism, which Mary Shelley is known to have read in October 1814). The Order promoted a belief in deism and a doctrine of spiritual perfection: the society was in fact first known as the Order of Perfectibilists.

At their height, the Illuminati claimed over two thousand members, not only in Germany but in France, Belgium, Holland, Denamrk, Sweden, Poland, Hungary, and Italy, including Goethe, Herder, and many other prominent nobles and reformers. But the Bavarian government cracked down on the Illuminati and other secret societies in 1784 for allegedly plotting a massive overthrow of Europe's monarchies, although it was unable to squelch them entirely. By the end of the eighteenth century, however, the Illuminati had effectively disbanded, although legends of their continued existence (and influence) persist into the twentieth century (among, for instance, members of the John Birch Society). Perhaps some of this confusion is owing to the fact that over time, the word illuminati came to be used more expansively for many enthusiasts of Enlightenment, including the followers of Emmanuel Swedenborg.

Adam Weishaupt
Adam Weishaupt, 1748-1811, founder of the Order of the Illuminati.
Weishaupt was born and raised in Ingolstadt, where he studied law and attained the rank of Professor of Canon Law in 1772. Though educated by Jesuits and for a time a member of their order, he broke with them and became increasingly liberal in his religious and political views, favoring deism and republicanism. His interests were widespread, including an early fascination with aeronautics.

With the help of, and occasional fiction with, Bron von Knigge, Weishaupt in 1776 formed the Order of Perfectibilists, which later became known as the Illuminati. Although the Order was founded to provide an opportunity for the free exchange of ideas, Weishaupt's background as a Jesuit seems to have influenced the actual characer of the society, which was determined by an elaborate network of spies and counter-spies.

A year after the society was banned by Bavaria's government in 1784, Weishaupt lost his position at the University of Ingolstadt and fled Bavaria. He received the assistance of Duke Ernest of Gotha, and during the next quarter century lived in Gotha writing a series of works on Illuminism, including A Complete History of the Persecutions of the Illuminati in Bavaria (1785), A Picture of Illuminism (1786), An Apology for the Illuminati (1786), and An Improved System of Illuminism (1787). He died there in 1811.

I don't know what the truth is here, but I have a hard time believing that more than 100 members of a scoiety that secret and exclusive would talk to her and that she could manage to talk to so many members without the supposed heavies finding out and coming down on her project.

Its interesting that she links S&B with the Illuminatti. I wonder what the German group the founder contacted was.

There was a huge anti-masonic backlash in the US in the early 1900s because of the murder of someone who planned on publishing the Masons' secrets and the subsequent cover-up.

I liked the reference to the Mithraic elements. The Mithraic history and traditions are fascinating.

According to conspiracy theory, not everyone makes it into the "inner circle", or even knows about it. Very secretive and reserved for those with an insatiable thirst for power over other people (e.g., read some of Kissinger's stuff where he talks about his own drives).

I guess you either believe it can happen or you don't...kind of like believing in Big Foot (oops, there goes another thread).
