“We have been married 28 years and I just got into backpacking 13 years ago. My wife used to like car camping, but it lost it's charm when all she was doing was keeping little kids from running off into the woods where the bears could eat them.

I am lucky that I have a wife that puts up with my faults and lets me do things. However, I need to do a better job or she may not need me around after the kids leave.

“I don't think I'll ever get my wife to backpack. But I'm slowly trying to get my kids into it. I'm also considering getting a popup camper so we can do hiking vacations. Basecamp with the pop-up so she can have more civilized surroundings, and I go back into the woods for a night. She's open to that idea because she used to go camping in a popup when she was a kid.”
