“Phil, I checked out his homepage. It says he has won $400,000.00. I wonder if that is his total from 13 years of fishing? It looks like he may fish about once a month for a few months, so it's no wonder his bio says he likes relaxing. He has a lot of down time, lol.

With the other gal (the blonde) or shall I call her the "pop up" girl, she was talking about going to his state to work, and just waiting for him to return from fishing trips. Bryon never mentioned that his wife could afford not to work with what he made fishing.

I guess we will have to sit back and "relax" according Byron, lol, and see what happens in their future.”

“I was quite suprised that Byron was moving to Florida, and giving up his amazing bachelor pad on Lake Mead. That's either a really stupid man, or a man so deeply in love that he'd do anything for his woman. I'm a romantic, so I like to think the latter.

LH - you also missed a passage he read out of his journal during the dating period. Apparently he believes in angels very strongly, and had a sign from several angels (his relatives - uncle and grandfather, I believe) that Mary was the one for him. He whole heartedly believes that Mary is the one meant for him.

I hope it all goes very, very well for them!

“sg - I went on Byron's fishing website and found a message page. I sent him a message telling him my connection with his dad and hoping he replies.

It really does look like Byron and Mary are in love. They are old enough to know what they want, so perhaps it is going to work out!

I always thought Mary was quite genuine. I suspect they had to cut out all the great segments where they really got along so it wouldn't show the competition out of balance.”

“Smiley, getting signs from angels makes for good tv. Byron is full of it. If he got signs from angels, he would marry right away, so why isn't he? He said on a tv show today that they are going to wait about a year. Maybe an angel spoke to him again and said don't be an idiot, and give the relationship time to see if it will truly work out in the real world.”

“I can't believe that anyone would fall in love that fast with someone. Having some positive feelings and hopes for the future yes but not to the point of marriage after x number of unrealistic dates”

“Ewker, I agree with you. I believe these last two women he had to choose from said they would marry him if they were asked tomorrow. It's shows they have something wrong with them. They are willing to marry someone who is practically a stranger. You can't be wrapped too tight to agree to that.

Wasn't Mary in love with bachelor Bob from another show? Seems like you can stick any guy in front of her and she will want to get married. She may be a nice person, but she has some mental problems,lol.”

“I don't think you can go by what happens at the last rose ceremony. I agree that is too soon to know someone well enough to commit to marrying them.

However, Byron and Mary had to be satisfied with talking on the phone for 3 months before the final rose ceremony was aired. They said they talked a lot. That can actually be a very good time to get to know someone.

If I am ever single again and I am looking for a romantic angle, I will have to remember the "angels told me" line. Pretty romantic and effective! (hey, nothing else ever worked for me...so why no angels?)

My wife and had a long distance engagement (I was in CA and she was finishing school at Purdue). We were separated for a year and a half and engaged for the last 8 months of that. Out of all that time we saw each other only 5 weeks! We wrote a lot of letters and talked on the phone (no email in 1973).

I don't think Mary is whacko (although she could be). I think she is very passionate and wears her emotions on her sleeve more than most. She was no doubt invited onto the show by the producers because they saw some good potential excitement from her presence.

I think Byron was very attracted to her both physically and emotionally. When they got their massages together and all she had was a towel over her backside, I suspect he was pretty thrilled.

Mary is very comfortable in the outdoors and probably mixes well with any crowd. He fell for her hook, line, and sinker! (another pun!!)”

“Phil, no doubt a lot can be learned by mail or phone if a person is forthcoming about all aspects of their life. You and your wife must have had a strong committment, plus a deep caring and love for each other, a willingness to compromise, along with compatability. I don't know if Mary and Byron are the same.

I shouldn't call Mary a total wacko, but someone who may be stunted emotionally to be able to marry two men without knowing them well enough. So she is a bit impulsive. Isn't she 39 years old? She may be desparate at this point, especially if she plans to have kids of her own. I just have this feeling that she will say anything to Byron on the phone to make him happy and willing to marry her. She has the time she spent with him on tv, and the telephone time, so she has invested a lot of her time in him. She's not letting go.

I don't recall if they mentioned having children together, but it would be to their benefit if they started sooner than later. I don't think Byron is that committed to her. He mentioned moving to Florida, but when will that be? I haven't seen anything yet from him that shows a committment on his part.”

“lh - You missed the show that played right after the two-hour finale. Byron was flying to Florida with her the next morning for Thanksgiving with her family and to look for a house.

My guess is that he will not sell his house in Nevada, but keep it as a vacation home for a while.

Time will tell if Mary is for real or not. To me the bigger question is whether or not Byron is real (which I think he is).

When I left Purdue, my now-wife and I were not committed to each other at all. I kept dating. Then I quickly started to realize how great she was and got more serious. We are very different personalities, but have practically the same family backgrounds and values. The old "opposites attract" thing.”

“Phil, you are blowing all my theories right out of the water, lol. I did forget to add in the "values" part. It's very important.

I'm always wrong about stuff, so why shouldn't my ideas about their relationship going caput be any different, lol. Maybe I was just turned off by Byron's ability to lead Tonya along, and Mary's seemingly willingness to marry anyone in front of her. Mary can always play the good girlfriend, then wife just to be married and be true to him, but not to herself. I just get a bad feeling about these two. I do wish them the best. Breakups stink.”

Next show is the Bachelorette with Jen Shefft. She was the one that Andrew Firestone picked and then they broke up. I liked Jen. Looking forward to seeing how she handles it.”

“Well, committing to someone in that timeframe does seem quite strange in our (my) generation, but there are plenty of people out there who met each other and got married rather quickly, and have been together for many, many, many years. One of my ex-boyfriend's parents had been married ~30 years when I met him, and they only knew each other a month before they got married.

I'm not saying it works for everyone (the divorce rate certainly proves that) but I'm saying it could happen! Must be the romantic in me....”

“I personally don't think they should recycle any person that has been on a show already. They had their chance and blew it.”

Some of these girls develop a following and after the show is over they have their own websites, etc. They go on talkshows and stuff.

Mary (a reject from Bachelor Bob) won this time and she was not one of the original 25 girls. Wonder what they will do next time.”

“Well - What a bust! Jen didn't pick anyone in the end. Said the spark wasn't there! This was the most boring Bachelor/Bachelorette yet and anti-climatic at that.

The next Bachelor starts March 28. I hope the producers redeem themselves!”

“Phil, I was flipping channels and saw it on so I decided to watch. I did like the question the woman in the audience asked her. What are you looking for in a guy? This woman has been on both shows and was the so called winner each time and walked away from both men.
Do you think she is hard to please or is this a I want to be the center of attention thing.”

“Ewker - I am beginning to think she has some issues of some kind...not sure what.

There is one possible explanation, however. The time that they have on the program to try to get to know someone, fall in love, and propose is unbelieveably short for mere mortals. She may actually be the first one to have learned the hard way that is why most of the show's final couples don't make it.

I thought Jen was attractive enough physically (although my wife disagrees), but she doesn't seem to have much substance.”

“Phil, I agree who has some kind of issues. I also agree with your wife, she really didn't do anything for me.

Yeah both shows do make it tough. I did it once without being on a show and learned a hard lesson.”

“I didn't see the show, but is she pretty where she may want to be seen for a modeling contract or checked out as a possible actress on the shows dime?”

“lipstick - She is "girl next door" pretty more than a model type. Not everyone thinks she is that great.

“The new bachelor show is a bit chaotic. Seems like the producers really stirred the pot by throwing out the rules.

Not sure what I think of the bachelor or the bachelorettes so far. He seems to have some personality, but we'll see. Those girls can get pretty mean to each other!!!”

“Probably one of the least interesting Bachelor shows so far. Proves that the idea of dating multiple partners simulateously to find someone compatable doesn't work. The producers seem to make sure that Charlie cannot get to know any of them very well. I think he is sincere and probably a good catch for a girl who is somewhat on the wild-at-heart side and doesn't want an 8-to-5 career.
