no cheap gear for Biz-ness
Are all gaitors alike? I would like some for snowshoeing, but the ones I have seen all look alike (wimpy). I don't know exactly what I'm expecting, maybe something that looks like they could survive K2!

what?!

In snow or off trail I'd recommend the knee high ones. For just keeping trail gibblets out of your boots the ankle ones are fine.

I have the OR Croc Gaitors. They are gortex but do not feel heavy duty. Velcro instead of snaggy zippers. I've used them for snowshoeing, in mud and slush. I like em!

Hey Dude, where do you hike that there are bird guts and junk on the trail?!? LOL

I've got some Crocs and some 'lows,' but I was wondering if there were any out there that are 'low' and completely cover the boot... to fully protect the boots from run-off.

Maybe like:
These or these or
these...
only 'low'. I suppose I could get the full length versions and hack away at them, but I'd rather not, <G>.

And Biz, if the regular Crocs aren't badass enough fo' ya, OR also makes the HD Crocs and the Expedition Crocs.

Crocodile Rose?

Rocky Rose?

I have knee-high ones, mostly because when I go hiking in the summer, my legs get all scratched up by briars and stuff. Hoping to keep the blood loss down to a minimum this summer.

I use OR High Gaitors similar to the Crocodile for snow trips or desert hiking.

I use these for backpacking/hiking

GO GAITERS!

I use the low-cut OR gaiters. If I were more of a wintor travelor I have always liked the OR high gaiters, that Snow Nymph mentions. The low ones keep out any grit or pebbles when I'm crossing scree slopes or othor steep slopes.

I bought my first pair at Deleware Water Gap in Dec. They're pretty plain: zippered, hooks on bootlace, elastic above ankle, and drawstring at top (just below knee). They have gromments on either side at the bottom to accomodate strings (provided) that loop under the sole of my boots, but I don't use them. I will keep my eyes peeled for appropriate bungees, tho.

They worked very well for snowshoeing, and have done an excellent job of keeping the flying dirt out while grubbing with the Pulaski...

I use the OR rocky mountain high gortex gaiters. These are the only pair I've tried, but I like em.

I have a pair of Black Diamond goretex gaiters. Easy on/off velcro and sturdy boot strap.

I like 'em.

OR big crocs here for my plastics and Campmor G-tex for leather. An essential at all times.

Mountain Hardware Vent Gaitors
Knee high, velcro closure, zippered mesh vents that allow your legs to breathe in the hotter parts of the day...Hooks and tie to secure to the boot.

Come in two types, one Goretex with buckle instep straps, the other is Nylon, same velcro and zippered vent, minus the buckled instep straps.

Above all (IMHO) velcro, front closures, knee high, goretex is nice. I have OR (crocs, I think). Very durable, no stupid zippers to jam or freeze up, easy on. I've been through a lot of crappy gaitors and these are outlasting everything.

Here's one on my frozen, left foot:
gaitor demo

BTW it was frozen before I put the gaitor on..
