Country singer Lyle Lovett trampled by bull
HOUSTON, Texas (CNN) -- Grammy-winning singer Lyle Lovett was in good condition Wednesday after being trampled by a bull, a hospital spokeswoman said.

Lovett, 44, was taken by ambulance to Memorial Hermann Hospital, where doctors spent three hours repairing a fracture to his right leg, said spokeswoman Beth Sartori.

In a release, the Tomball Regional Hospital said Lovett was injured on his uncle's farm in suburban Houston. In its Thursday edition, the Houston Chronicle reported Klein was flipped by the bull while working on his farm. Lovett saw what happened, went to help, and was trampled by the animal.

Klein, suffering from chest pain trauma, was later taken to Tomball. All tests were clear.

Lovett underwent surgery on his lower right leg to reconstruct the bone, which was broken in several places, said Sartori.

"It's a bad injury," Dr. Kevin Coupe, who performed the surgery, told the Chronicle. Twenty pieces of bone were broken in his leg, he told the paper. Lovett may remain in the hospital for three days and a full recovery may take at least six months, he said.

Rhino gets amorous with car

CNN

LONDON, England (Reuters) -- A rampant rhinoceros gave a group of visitors a glimpse of nature in the raw at a British safari park when he tried to have sex with their car.

Sharka, a two-ton white rhino, got amorous with Dave Alsop's car when he stopped with three friends to take pictures of the animal mating with his partner Trixie at the West Midland Safari Park.

The 12-year-old rhino tried to mount the Renault Laguna from the side, denting the doors and ripping off the wing mirrors before Dave drove away with a puffing Sharka in pursuit.

"He was a big boy and obviously aroused," Alsop told the Sun newspaper on Thursday.

"He sidled up against us. The next thing I know he's banging away at the car and it's rocking like hell."

13 in Santa Ana Stung as 120,000-Plus Bees Attack

By Joel Rubin, LA Times Staff Writer

More than 120,000 bees laid siege to a Santa Ana neighborhood Thursday afternoon, stinging residents, firefighters and news reporters, authorities said.

After living relatively quietly in a wall of a two-story apartment building in the 900 block of south Cypress Avenue for about two years, the bees poured into the neighborhood when boys threw rocks at the hives, fire officials said.

Firefighters responded to calls from frantic neighbors shortly after 2 p.m. and cordoned off a four-block area. They then tried to keep the bees at bay with streams of water until a professional beekeeper arrived about an hour later.

"It was pandemonium," said Santa Ana fire Capt. Steve Horner.

"Everywhere you looked, bees were attacking."

A mother and daughter, who were both stung multiple times, were treated for allergic reactions to the stings and taken to a hospital.

An unlucky jogger was caught wearing only shorts, Horner added.

In all, 13 people were stung, including seven firefighters and two reporters.

The beekeeper disposed of most of the 120,000-plus bees by subduing them with a chemical spray, then vacuuming them up.

About 500 pounds of honey was discovered in the apartment walls, Horner said.

Fire officials said residents had used foam in an attempt to plug holes used by the bees to enter the wall, but had never reported the problem to authorities.

Too bad it wasn't worse. Morons like this really piss me off.

PENSACOLA, Fla. (AP) - A man who tried to shoot seven puppies was shot himself when one of the dogs put its paw on the revolver's trigger.

Jerry Allen Bradford, 37, was charged with felony animal cruelty, the Escambia County Sheriff's Office said Wednesday. He was being treated at a hospital for a gunshot wound to his wrist.

Bradford said he decided to shoot the 3-month-old shepherd-mix dogs in the head because he couldn't find them a home, according to the sheriff's office.

On Monday, Bradford was holding two puppies - one in his arms and another in his left hand - when the dog in his hand wiggled and put its paw on the trigger of the .38-caliber revolver. The gun then discharged, the sheriff's report said.

he got what he deserved... being so mean to animals!

My hubby (Thinkbubelz) and I saw a cute little puppy in Alaska-- poor little thing had been beaten until he was blind in 1 eye and then abandoned in a campground.

An old man from the local town rescued the pup (paid $$ for the vet bills) and the little guy was so cute--very loving and friendly! It's so sad that some people thing that kind of cruelty is a way to get rid of extra dogs.

I'm afraid of dogs, but even so, I don't believe that being mean to an animal is okay!

"It was as if nature had turned on its head completely," says Dereck Joubert, a filmmaker who followed Legadema for three-and-a-half years in her natural habitat, the Okavango Delta of Botswana - the verdant flood plains known as Africa's Garden of Eden.

"She had killed the mother primate, but then found this live new-born on the ground. The little baboon called out, and we thought we were going to hear a major crunch and the leopard smacking its lips, but instead the baby baboon put its paws out and walked towards the young leopard.

"Legadema paused for a moment, apparently not knowing what to do. Then she gently picked it up in her mouth, holding it by the scruff of its neck and carrying the infant up a tree to keep it safe."

Animal Attacks Boy, 5, in New Mexico Mountains

Monday , May 19, 2008

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. —

A large animal attacked a 5-year-old boy hiking with his family, seriously injuring him with puncture wounds to the head, neck and back, authorities said.

The boy, Jose Salazar Jr., was hiking near Sandia Peak and had run ahead of his parents on Saturday evening when they heard a scream, Bernalillo County Sheriff Darren White said.

The boy's parents, Jose and Charlotte Salazar, saw the animal emerge from the brush and start dragging away their son, White said. The father tried to jump on the animal's back, and it let go of the boy and fled.

White said Sunday that the animal was a mountain lion, but Ross Morgan, a spokesman for the state Department of Game and Fish, said dogs trained to track mountain lions picked up no scent in the area Saturday night or Sunday.

The sheriff's report said the father could not say what type of animal attacked the child because it happened so fast.

Jose was hospitalized in serious condition Saturday, White said. A hospital spokeswoman said Monday the family declined to make the boy's condition public.

JOHANNESBURG, South Africa — Police say six caged lions left only fingers and intestines after eating a worker giving them water.

The lions attacked the 49-year-old man Tuesday after he went inside their cage to deliver water, police said Wednesday.

The man had been working at the Uitspan game farm in northwest South Africa for at least two years, police said. No one witnessed the attack.

Environmental affairs was called to the game farm, which cages lions and other animals for tourists' viewing, to discus the fate of the lions.

Deer tramples man.

About 4 or 5 times a year, I drive through Cades Cove. Most people are taking pictures of wildlife........

I take my camera for that one special moment when someone gets mauled and I can capture the image.

Driving through Cades Cove that fast makes it difficult to see much. I like to stop at the trailheads and explore.

If it was that crowded, perhaps you were there on "Earth Day."
