EASTER SUCKS!

“What does everyone have planned for this weekend for Easter? Myself, you ask? Well, my wife is in England until next Friday, so it's me and the boy for the week. I think we'll be hanging out together, drinking some beers, (milk), hangin' out in our Sunday's best (P.J.'s), eating the finest food (pizza) and watching good, quailty American TV (Blue's Clues/Thomas the Train).








Good thing I'm getting out into the woods next weekend, eh?”

“Oh no! I DO NOT want to come accross that way. Spending time with him IS the highest priority in my book, just above hiking and loving the wife..... :)


I guess I shoulda wrote that post a little differently. It just seems to me that Easter has lost a little bit since I was a kid. Doesn't seem to be as much of a big deal as it used to be. Nobody that I can tell has any super duper hiking plans for this weekend. When my wife called after getting over the Great Pond, she said that the airport wasn't busy at all. Maybe I'm just getting old, but with this holiday, just doesn't seem to be like it used to....”

“Well yeah, most of the holidays feel that way to me too. It seems to me that most of the holidays have become an excuse to spend a bucket of cash.”

“laqtis, how old is your son? I have video tape of my daughter hunting eggs outside when she was 2 1/2 and it is just priceless. We kept telling her that we saw the Easter Bunny, and he ran around to the front of the house. Then as she ran to find him, we would rehide the eggs, and then she would hunt for them again. She was totally excited. Then the next year, she was 3 1/2 and her sister was 1 1/2 and the older one found most of the eggs but we made sure that the baby found several. They really love the egg hunt the best. Now my neighbors put on a huge egg hunt with hundreds of plastic eggs filled with toys, quarters, and candy. About 35 kids show up from several streets to find eggs with their assigned numbers on them plus some fun wild card eggs. The adults have coffee and breakfast treats, and chat while the kids are hot on the hunt.

Outside of the religious aspect, the big thing about Easter is the easter egg hunt; that is what really gets the kids whipped up.”

“Used to be that Good Friday was a holiday and/or Easter Break coincided with Easter (duh!). Due to the "un-Christianizing" of America and destruction of traditions, things have changed. Here in California we don't honor Easter or Good Friday anymore, but we now have Caesar Chavez's Birthday (March 31) as a State Holiday. It falls on Easter Sunday this year so we get April 1 off. I wonder if any students will show up for school Monday thinking that Ceasar Chavez's birthday is an April Fool's joke!”

“Splash - He's just over two. This is the year that he finds out about everything like the Easter Bunny and stuff. That vid sounds real cute. We have some like that too. My son is my life. He's great. Having him around makes me think about how it was when I was growing up. Maybe I'm just old now.....


Tilt - Good one. With the wife gone, I gets a tad bit edgy. We're both Gemini's and when she's away from me, I feel like a part of me is missing. But, as she knows as well, I think both Ginger and Maryann are hotties!

“I don't like or celebrate easter but I always jump at the chance for family gatherings. Family is WAY up the list from hiking.”

“Last year at this time I got invited on a great backpacking trip, started making plans and got really excited, only to discover that the trip was on easter weekend. I bagged that trip in a second. It isn't so much an easter celebration for us but a family gathering. We make our own holidays and traditions as we go along.

Saturday we colored easter eggs at grandma's - an annual tradition and my 15 mo old grandson ate his.
Sunday we did the easter basket thing (we each have a basket and each person adds a stocking stuffer type thing), had a yummy meal then headed outside for the rest of the day. We had a ball flying kites, blowing bubbles, watching the dog fetch and swim, hiked out to big rock twice and added to the bone pile on top, then we went to see the new calves, one only two hours old. My granddaughter got "bit" by the fence for the first time, my nephew showed us the secret "cave" he found, and we scoped out sites for the new tent - can't wait to camp out there !”

“My easter was ok did 18 miles of hiking and went to my brothers son's 6th birthday party!

“My Easter was great, except for getting up at 5:30 in the morning. Had to do that to make it to my sister's house in time for 8AM mass. THen, a bunch of other family came over (17 total), we pigged out as usual. The best part was playing hopscotch on the sidewalk with my niece, and wathcing my little nephew ride the cow statue on my sister's porch (she's a country gal - got cows all over the place!). I couldn't have asked for anything better than spending time with my family!”

“Jack rabbits attack walkers in Sonoma County; man bitten, woman forced to evade jack rabbit

SANTA ROSA, Calif. (AP) - Sonoma County musician Doug Bowes will remember this Easter season as the one where he happened upon the Easter Bunny, and it attacked him.

Bowes was walking near his home at about 11 a.m. Wednesday when the attack occurred. A small, gray jack rabbit bounded toward him from a nearby fence.

"I thought, 'Gosh, this is somebody's pet,' " Bowes said. He put his hand down in a friendly gesture and the bunny lunged and bit him.

Bowes began to walk home, nursing a sore hand with broken skin, but the rabbit followed him. A short time later, a nearby neighbor had to retreat up a hill after another aggressive jack rabbit forced her back.

Bowes had to get rabies shots and faces five additional vaccinations, though area health officials say it would be rare if the animal had rabies.

"If it were (rabid) it would make history," said David Yong, director of laboratory services for the county public health division. No rabbit has tested positive for rabies in Sonoma County in the past 16 years, Yang said.”
