Content Management
Does anyone use or recommend any freeware or shareware for content management for a website?

It doesn't need to be especially powerful or complex, the only content I'm looking to manage is text in html (like a journal/diary format).

I thought I'd give a shout to you guys before I sat down and started putting something together myself.

Do you mean an html editor? I use notepad.

No. What I need is a program that will save and update a page without having to code. I've seen a few examples, but non of them are free. Most of the ones I've found are either asp or php scripts.

In theory, you designate a place in the html code that the update is placed, and then when you update the site (with say a journal entry), the automatically places the text, along with date/time, etc.

That would be a database driven web app with a GUI front end for data entry.

I assume you want a data entry page where you just type in your copy and where it is to go and hit submit. The data is saved to a database and the scripting determines how the data is displayed.
Am I right?

If so I don't know of anything personally but I'm sure there is something out there. The issue is who controls your environment. If you do and you aren't using a freeserver you might as well learn ASP, PHP or cold fusion as all do the same thing. This isn't that difficult to do and there are several places and books out there that can tell you how to do it. If you are using a freeserver most likely you will have to pay extra for a workable environment that will allow you to use these tools.

Maybe one of the folks here at work knows of something. I'll ask.

ditto to what humanpackmule said. I've always just created my own system using ASP/PHP and a database. If you want to learn some of the programming, I suggest the "Learn XX in 24 Hours" or "Learn XX in 21 Days" books. I have used several of their books and really like them.

I absolutly won't buy any book that calls me a dummy either.

I was figuring on doing the scripting in php - I was just curious if there was any pre-existing sourcecode.

Thanks for the info.
