Upper Peninsula Double Header

“May 11 drive to Pictured Rocks, near Munising, get permits, hike in. Spend 6 days hiking to the other end of the Lakeshore trail (42 miles) then back. May 16, leave PR, get a motel somewhere and shower/shave. May 17 drive to the Porcupine Mtns. Spend 7 days hiking every trail there (63 miles). May 24 (b-day) get another motel and shower/shave, before driving home May 25 & 26.

Anyone interested in being a co-conspirator or accomplice?”

“I would be interested in joining you. However, I won't know what my work schedule will permit until later this month.”

“le Subtil, I'll try to keep an eye on the weekend of the 18/19th when you are at the Porkies to see if I might be available, even for a day hike portion. That's when you'll be closest. Hope you beat the bug season.”

May 11, I will do an overnighter to see you off on your adventure provided I can arrange child care.

The girls have dress rehearsal and their dance recital the 15-17th.

I'll see what I can arrange for your visit to the Porkies. Most I can do is arrange to meet up with you two days.

As for the 24th, I'll get a babysitter, pick you up at the motel along with anyone else who'd like to come along, and take you out for your birthday. Will you be staying in Silver City or can I persuade you to stay in Houghton or Hancock? :o)”

Next steps. I am working at a camp for the summer. after that i have so many options that I am not sure what I want to do. All of them interest me.

I could teach school in Tanzania. I could stay on at camp and learn more about working full time at camp. I could do that at a different camp. I could be a program director at a camp. I could work at this inner city youth home. I could go on to graduate school. I HAVE NO IDEA!!”

“It's set! My sister can take the kids the 11th and 12th. Let me know what time you plan on pulling into Munising and I'll meet you there. I'll only be able to do the one night. :o( It's pretty pathetic how excited I am about an overnighter but it's the best I can get.

I still don't know what I can do the week you're in the Porkies. My job description is in the process of changing so where or what I'll be doing but I'm still hoping to head out there for a night or two.

As for your birthday, let me know where you're going to be so I can start planning. This will be a birthday you won't quickly forget. Mooohaha!

Wow, now I'm getting excited!

Neither of these trips have any rigid schedule or itinerary. I just want to spend 2 weeks in the UP woods.

If I drive up on the 11th, I'll be in by noon. I may come up the night before and stay in a cheap motel if I get really stressed before I go.
I'm going end-to-end and back, but if there are 2 of us with cars, we could start somewhere more interesting than the Munising Falls end.
On the 24th I'll be coming out of the Porkies, and will definately want (need) a motel and a shower. I have kin in Octonagon, but it's not important where I stay. Houghton is not too far out of the way.
Don't feel obligated to do much for the b-day. It's not a big deal. I'll be happy just to hike with you again!”
