He was one of the leagues greatest players until he was banned from baseball folowing the famous Black Sox scandal in which several players were paid off by gambling interests to throw the 1918 world series. Shoeless Joe batted over .300 for the series, and was aquitted of any illegalities in a court of law, yet he is still banned to this day, and not allowed to be elected to the Hall of Fame.”
