Today I finally did laundry, and washed the clothes I wore on my weekend backpacking trip. As I picked up my jacket, I smelled the scent of campfire smoke still on it. I touched my nose to the jacket, and inhaled deeply. Ah, I love that smell! So why not capture it in a bottle somewhow and make a cologne out of it? What do you think?

Some tall guy with funny hair made a cologne called "Ocean". It smelled like salt air, it worked for him.

Can't you buy Liquid Smoke at the grocery store in the spice section? Just dab a bit behind your ears and on your pulse points, and you'll drive the gals -- and BBQ fans -- wild!

I lost my sence of smell a few years ago. I'd have to just lick my jacket to enjoy it.

I find the smell of burnt wood objectionable. The worst thing is to crawl into a tent that has a lingering smell of stale smoke.

I've grown tired of the smell of smoke. It covers up too many other smells that I enjoy.

bacpac-
Use a little lube.
Or just quit playin' with your wood.

Eu d'smoke
It depends on the wood. Cottonwood and elm kind of stink, but spruce and Doug-fir have a nice scent!

Aspen smells kinda like cat piss.

White birch smells a bit like incense and the bark burns like gasoline.

OK, I admit I like a small pinion or juniper fire on a cool fall night.

Every One Loves The Smell Of....
Eau de Deet, right?

That mixed with sweat, and fire smoke are irresistable.

Took the words right out of my mouth Pekka.

I love the smell of campfire, lingering in my clothes. Also like woodsmoke, reminds me of home and a cold winter night, snuggled up on the sofa...by the woodstove.

Sometimes i skip the campfire because i can't stand the smell of smoke on my clothes, the fire is fine, and the original smoke smells fine, on my clothes though, eh... i could go without, on a long trip though i could care less, the wonderful aroma of being on trail, i'm not saying it's a good smell, but it is a good feeling, a feeling of freedom.

Don't forget the complex olfactory experience of DEET+Sunscreen. Don't get it on your watch face or the plastic lenses on your glasses.

Artex, you'd have loved being on my fire crew...after spending a week at a forest fire it takes two weeks for the smell to get out of your hair and your clothes never smell the same.

I heard campfire smoke ruins the DWR treatment on clothing. Anyone have any experience with this?
