Another nice weekend in No. California

“Anyone want to make some plans for a BP trip this weekend? I want to go somewhere out of the snow, Spring is here!”

“So what are you thinking about? I might be able to go again this weekend, it depends on what Mrs. Tahoe has to say. I am certainly up for some snow free fun though.”

“Haven't thought that far ahead, I'm up for anything. Feather Falls? Ishi Wilderness? Somewhere toward the coast (a longer drive for you)? How 'bout a high desert trip in your neck of the woods?

Anyone have ideas?”

“Heading down to Death Valley early tomorrow morning for 4 days of exploration, photography, hiking and comaradarie.”

“This is one spot I would like to go. Don't know much about it (trails or elevations) but it sounds very nice from what I have heard. It is just north of Sac right?”

“Takes about 3 hrs from Sacramento, in Lassen Nat'l Forest. Enter "ISHI" in your search engine and you'll get a lot... http://www.r5.fs.fed.us/lassen/ishi_wilderness.htm is a pretty good starting point. Only about 2000' in the foothills. I've been there, easy hikes, pretty streams, etc.”

“Before I commit to this one, I have to clear it with my S.O.
Mapquest told me I should take I-80 to I-5, but it looks shorter to go up 395 and take one of the west bound highways toward Red Bluff/Chico. Any suggestions?”

“I was in Ishi 2 weeks ago, it's about 2 - 2.5 hours north of Sac to get to access roads into Ishi. Your best bet is to head up to Red Bluff and take Hwy 36 to Paynes Creek then Ponderosa Rd to points south. Options include Antelope Ck, Mill Ck, Lassen Tr., Moak Tr. and Deer Ck. Lassen and Moak are ridgetop trails in open chaparal type country with bountiful views, interesting rock formations, cattle and no water or shade generally starting at about 3000' and undulating downward. The creek routes are a mixture of chaparal, oak and pine with wide green flats dispersed along the creeks. Elevations tend to be about 2000' to start. Heading up Mill Ck (not Ishi but Lassen NF) is more pine country with good views of the ridgelines.”
