dehydrating green beans?

Ok i don't have any fresh green beans cause i read that you can dehydrate those once you've blanched them...what about canned green beans..can you dehydrate them?....anyone try?? gonna try it tonight..

Well, I bet you can, but I don't know how well it'll work OPIE. I'd be afraid the skins would be really nasty.

I've only used fresh veggies. I have a feeling that you will end up with a bowl of Gumby's. Green, rubbery critters.

hmmm...i guess i could double ziploc them and freeze them...
we only have the cheapo dehydrator magic chef POS...screw it...i'm just doing apples and peaches

I've have the American Harvest Snackmaster 2400 (How's THAT for a name?!) I usually eat very well on the trail. Pasta Primavera (sp?), piza--using dried veggies and sauce, shrimp jambalyia (sp?), turkey and stuffing, for example. All created using my "Snackmaster 2400."

Need Info on Ronco brand dehydrator
Anyone have a Ronco brand. I got one 7-8 yrs ago and used it once and now I cannot find the instruction book. I do know there isn't a temp. control knob and I think all you do is just plug it in and forget about it for a day or so.

Green beans are the only vegetable I haven't had a lot of luck with. I've tried them raw, blanched, and cooked, and they all come out like what we in New England call "Leather Britches Beans". You want beans, make bean soup or chili and dehydrate it. Yummy. All my other veggies I dry raw or, if they're part of a meal I'm cooking at home to dry, I add them at the last minute.

I have a Waring that I got for about $30 15 years ago. Just a heater and a fan and a stack of trays. Works fine. I do fruit, veggies, yogurt, and anything I cook at home like stroganoff, stirfry, spaghetti sauce, stews, soups, leftovers. I eat better on the trail than I do at home.

I know you said you didn't have fresh, but, I've had great luck dehydrating Green Beans fresh from the garden. I steam blanch them. On the trail I soak them for an hour before heating. The taste is intense; but then, I'm usually having fresh veggie withdrawl after a few days on the trail.

My favorite vegi
Turnips, carrots, celery dehydrate great...an don;t forget the bananas. I recently got some dried scallops from a chinese grocery, you gotta get the good ones and soak them good in hot water for a while, maybe 2 hours...and they are expensive as sin, but they are worth it in spaghetti and sauce.

This was a timely string to encounter this evening. While reading, I was just sitting here eating a can green beans for my supper, warmed three minutes in the micro-wave. I'm down to the juice(water) on the bottom of my large mug. Good to the last drop.
