I did not convert trekking poles to a shotgun, that was a tongue-in-cheek post. However, I have personally seen a pair of forearm crutches configured that way by a friend of mine who is an amputee and a gunsmith. The firing mechanism is in the bottom with a hidden trigger at the top. Only the bottom 4 inches or so of the aluminum crutch shaft are fortified. No real aiming involved, just point in the general direction and fire. There's no choke so it is a short range weapon with a wide pattern. It would probably scare the bejeebers out of a potential assailant rather than do serious damage.

He said he got the parts from a mail order kit.

I have aramid fiber lines on my stunt kite. Is there some sort of death penalty involved with that?

responsible backpacker
Sounds like 'the backpacker' traded his(her) brains for excrement. I'd say the excrement dealer got the $hit end of the stick!

The true responsible backpacker uses a transparent tent...

I'm really dissapointed in how many irresponsible.
bp'ers there are! Really everyone we must do all we can to save the environment from human destruction. I've recently started to pack out my gas. I now fart and belch into a bag so that I carry out my methane which can damage the environment.

Just wondering :)

I wear scuba gear when I backpack, that way I don't steal oxygen from the deer.

Yes, do not exhale CO2 or inhale oxygen while hiking. You must hold your breath the entire time you are hiking.

You must also erase your bootprints while on the trail. Tie a broom to your @ss and drag it behind it you to eradicate your tracks.

gordon forgot to mention..
you can't make any dust while dragging the broom

and you can't introduce any foreign water into the environment. So... you have to wet down the path with urine from unstressed deer
