Ana told me this morning that the honey bun she was eating was yummy, but not as yummy as the cabbage she had yesterday.

LOL!

My son graduated from the Phoenix Fire Academy today. He is not a desk type, never has been, his mother and I had him set to go to CSU at Ft Collins, but he changed his mind, said he wanted to be a fireman, and today he is.

Really makes the nest feel empty, his sister graduated from college just about a year ago, and now he is pretty well set in a career he wants. I'm feeling like I got the long straw in the kid department.

Thanks for letting me brag!

We have invited friends and family to see Linus in Bye Bye Birdie next weekend at the high school.

His part is minor, that of a cop or something like that.
This boy ain't no singer and though he is a fearless dancer, he ain't the prettiest thing on two feet.

Congratulations Shawn!

Saw my 19 y/o son do a solo concert last night. No publicity, bad weather, 6 dollar cover and 40 people showed. He's begining to get a following, has an agent - writing most of his material, but did 4 covers (Velvet Underground Femme Fatale, Beatles: Little Pigies, some Tori Amos and something by - I think - Motel Motel). He's going to try to record a better CD to sell when he play - he's hooked up with a garage type label (actually I think its run out of a basement). He continues to do very well in college - I do not know how he finds the time.

Graduation nears!
Been a long time since I updated anything here, but wanted to share with old TT friends my excitement about my daughter's success -- she's graduating from U-Mich in a month, made Phi Beta Kappa, and has accepted a full fellowship to Cornell University for her Ph.D.

Pedxing, I know what you mean about how they find the time -- my daughter has been involved in so much over her college career and still performs at such a high level, something I never managed to balance well back in the ol' hippy college days of my youth.

We are going to see Linus, and the rest of the kids, in Bye Bye Birdie tonight.
Linus plays two small parts in this one, that of one of the reporters hounding Conrad Birdie and of a stage hand on the Ed Sullivan Show.

We were there for opening night on Thursday and the kids did a great job.
Several of the girls are very good vocalists.

The orchestra....over twenty pieces.....did a fantastic job with some of the most difficult music there is.
This stuff changes tempo and is all over the place somewhat like old cartoon music.

Yeah how was it? I liked that movie. Even changed the words to one of the songs for the twiglets, LOL...

Next weekend I go see neices and nephews in Into the Woods which should be cool.

Austin spent this morning curled up in my lap whining about how school is no fun and they have to go almost every single day! I finally get him to school and his teacher had to pry him off me to get him into class...tonight I'll cuddle him to bits...he is so over tired from his weekend at mom's...

Closing night really rocked!

These kids worked their tails off and had a lot of fun in the process.

I had never seen Bye Bye Birdie and didn't realize just how much they spoofed on Elvis and American culture of the '50s.
The "Ed Sullivan Song" is hysterical and the "MacAfee Family" singing it was a hoot!
There is a scene with Conrad Birdie singing "Sincere" with a stage full of people in full gyration.
Toward the end of the song small groups of dancers would swoon and fall down each time he swings his pelvis in their direction until the last dorky boy standing goes down to end the scene.

Tomorrow afternoon there's a ceremony at BowlderSon's school - he made the honor roll again this past trimester. All A's except for one A-. Of course, he got the A- in the elective he had for the term: baseball. Go figure....

Well I guess it's time to brag alittle. Our son Alex is graduating from Cal Poly San luis Obispo with his Bachelors in Enviornmental Engineering. He's been accepted for an internship with the water board in SLO and also in the masters program at Cal Poly. What a life. Here is some shots of Alex doing some enviornmental research.

Cal Poly is a great school, especially for engineering. My sis majored in bio there, and an uncle in some kind of ag field - they both loved it!!

Besides finishing his first year of middle school (with all A's and B's) in our new location, my son's Little League baseball team (their first year in the division) just finished in first place during the regular season and also finished first in their post-season tournament! Only three losses on the year.

Shock: kids smarter than chimps

I Need to Brag
Some of you know that my son pretty much zoned out his freshman year in high school last year. Well, after lots of discussion and an immeasurably boring summer (thanks to parental CONTROL), he currently has STRAIGHT A's, a TERRIFIC ATTITUDE and is showing signs of being headed in the RIGHT DIRECTION.

He's enjoying school and is proud of himself! (as he well should be).

I couldn't be any more pleased right now!
