We took Liam camping for the first time recently, too. It was sooo exhausting! From keeping him from eating (too much) dirt and rocks, to keeping him out of the sticker bushes, to trying to get him to sleep...whew! He greatly enjoys the dirt-eating...was filthy from head to toe. And he's used to sleeping near us, but it was a crowded campground with a lot of noise going on outside. I figure I should've just let him stay up later, but after I'd gotten him cleaned up and pajama'd, there was no way in hell I was going to do it all over again after letting him back outside, like he wanted, lol! He's a partier, likes to be awake and hanging out if he knows anyone else is.

He did love that trip, though! He'd be outside all day if he could.”

“I wish my stories were as cute as you folks' stories. My 9 year down syndrome son (still in diapers) is a little Houdini and can find his way out of any Jammie. We put them on backwards 9zipper in back), with a buttoned top and a tight tshirt over it and he still manages to get them all off. After that the messy diaper is no trouble at all. On the plus side, his finger painting skills are improving.”

“I have to share this story:

E's at my mom's house this week. The guy who developed the area my parents live built himself an actual castle to live in, though he doesn't live there anymore. Its quite a sight for kids, as you can imagine.

Evie's very much into Dora right now, and the only video we have is where Dora becomes a true princess after completing several tasks. One of the tasks is to bring the moon to the king and queen, who of course live in the castle.

Fast forward to today. My sister and mom took E to the playground near the castle. Evie looked at the castle, and asked where the king and queen were! My mom said they even knocked on the door, but told Evie that no one was home!

Hilarious! I wish I had been there!”

“My son - who just finished his junior year in college is a self taught pianist having started playing in High School. He's not a music major, but he writes, sings and performs (mostly in New York City, but has done a couple small tours).

“not my kid - but i was just on the phone with a friend of mine, guy i used to work with and still get to now and then - he lives back in North Carolina. He's gotta take the whole family to San Francisco next month as his daughter, age 11 (i think) is competing in the US Nationals Gymnastic comps. I think thats exciting and awesome!”

The Cliffs at High Carolina, a new Tiger-designed course in Asheville, North Carolina recently, Tiger fired his first two shots into the trees. He then looked out over the crowd and invited anyone to step up and try to outdrive him.

Most everyone in the crowd pulled that routine that you do when you don't know the answer and don't want the teacher to call on you -- looking everywhere but at Tiger, taking an intense interest in the clouds above, suddenly staring at their cell phones, and so on. But one brave soul -- that would be Mark -- stepped up and took his swing. You can see him there in the photo at right, teeing it up under the watchful eye of Tiger, who's wearing the white hat at right. And then, courtesy of NBC Philadelphia, here's what happened next (after the ad, of course): ”

“I know there are some Canadians here, so you have to understand that in the U.S. kids do not start checking in hockey until Pee Wee (11-12yo). So, my son was anticipating creaming these kids, until he was the one that got leveled. He was in an 8 game funk at the beginning of the season. A family friend happened to get it on video when he finally got his head back into the game.

“My son just got 2nd place in the 4th grade science fair. Yippie!”

“Cool. What was his project?”

“The food chain. I spent 3 hours on the internet and found nothing as an example for an elementary school food chain project. I did find the effects of acid on plant growth, we've been to the Smokies many times, the Smokies have issues with acid rain so viola, a project was born.

We took a tray with 10 compartments and put 4 with peas anf 4 with sunflowers. We did two seeds per compartment. We watered half with bottled water and half with a mixture of one part lemon juice to 4 parts bottled water. I'd say 7 of 8 seeds or so took off with the bottled water and maybe 4 of 8 with the lemon juice. The water only plants were maybe 2x-3x as high as the ones with lj. The project talked about seeing the effects at high elevation in the Smokies. We didn't bother to point out about the wooly balsam allegid (I think that's the name of the critter).”

“I found the idea online and thought it wouldn't be too far of a reach for it to tie into the food chain. What else can you do on teh food chain? I don't think they'd appreciate us bringing a snake in a cage and throwing a rat in there and saying, "here is a predator at work."

He actually enjoyed watering the plants and logging the results each day. This weekened I'd ask him what we did for each step of the writeup, he'd tell me what we did and I'd write it up in official type language. He didn't fuss or balk at participating.”

“My 18 month old is now a master at eating with a fork & brushing her own teeth. She also just moved from her crib into a "big girl bed" without any issues. :)

Our 10 week old has been sleeping 8-9 hour stretches at night for about a week now.

“Our girl that just turned 2 is still in her crib. It's a big crib, and she is not a big girl, but it's going to be time to convert it to a toddler bed soon. That is going to be tough for my wife since she won't have a baby needing to be gotten out of bed.

Though our son wouldn't get out of bed on his own even when we switched him to a full bed. He didn't know any different, so he just would call "MOMMY/DADDY!" until we got him up. Perhaps one of my greatest mistakes was bringing him to the realization that he could get up himself. lol”

“Mine will be two in July. She just hoisted herself over the crib railing the other night while pitching a fit and crashed to the floor. She was ok and I promptly dropped the crib floor to its lowest level, but the time is coming really soon where she'll be ready for a real bed, tho I'm not ready for her to go roaming the house on her own quite yet. This weekend we were at a cabin, kids had gone to bed and the adults were having some nightcaps, next thing I know she is standing next to me smiling. She'd just gone ahead and gotten out of the regular bed and came out to say hello. LOL.”

“lol - hubcup - my mom told me I did the same thing your son did. I'd sit in the full bed and yell "Mommy - I'm up! I'm up, Mommy!" until she came to get me.

Rosey ~ we put a little baby gate in her bedroom door so the most she can do is wander in her room. Last night I went in twice and told her to "get back in bed" and she did...and finally stayed. lol The other day I put her down for a nap and she got out of the bed. I heard her playing and then nothing. When I checked on her, she was face down on the floor with her butt up in the air fast asleep. lol”

“Grace (5) still has trouble sleeping through the night and does the same thing (calls for us).

Last night, she got up and snuck in our room. I don't know how long she stood there, but she just looked at us. Barbie freaked out, which made me freak out.”

“New Years Day I got choked on some bbq and my wife had to do the Heimleich (sp?) The kids saw the whole thing. About 3 weeks ago I got choked again, wife did took care of things, again, kids saw the whole thing. I've never choked before in my life and now 2x in about 3 months.

We were at an Easter get together yesterday. My wife and I were eating inside. The lady whose house we were at came in and told us that she saw our daughter (8) doing the Heimleich on her granddaughter. She thought they were playing but then her granddaughter was crying. It turns out, she got choked on a piece of hot dog. Emma saw what was happening, stayed calm, and knew what to do. Atta girl! The tears were from the fear during the choking. I'm dang proud.”
