Times reported final basketball stats for the southern section of the state. My daughter is the #5 rebounder in SoCal, at just over 15 rebounds per game...and she's only 5'7". She did have one game where she collected only 9 rebounds...vs Malibu, where she got hurt coming down on her backside, and sat out the final 3 quarters of the game.” 6:21:25 PM 4/07/03 “More baseball bragging.... Last night, Cameron knocked in the winning run in a very tight, well-played game. Well, it would have been the winning run, but a couple of his teammates had major mental lapses in the final inning and the Tigers lost 3-2. The game was 1-1 going to the bottom of the 5th, and Kenzo (one of the first-time players this year) led off with a single, and went to second on an overthrow. Cameron came up next. He had singled up the middle in his first at bat. Swung and missed at the first pitch. With one strike, he hit a line drive OVER the left-center-fielder's (they play with 4 outfielders) head! Kenzo scored easily to put us ahead 2-1. Unfortunately, a perfect throw and perfect tag got Cameron trying to stretch it into a double (our new aggressive baserunning style). He was quite upset (including some tears) because he was convinced he was safe. Anyway, his 2-for-2 night raised his season average to .500, and he won the team's "good deeds helmet" for being the hitting star. The manager will write his name on this special helmet, and Cameron will get to use that one exclusively for the next game. Another game report coming up on Saturday!” 10:34:36 AM 4/09/03 “Can I brag about my grandkids? My grandgirl came out of her room with a toy that had the raised image of a drill on it. She was yakking 90 miles a minute about how it was a drill and that was what we used to make the sled with. I'm thinking, what in hell is she talking about, she repeats herself, and it dawns on me - she had helped me build my gear sled two years ago, when she was two years old. I said yes, that was just what we did, and that I'd teach her to use the drill someday. She informed me that she already knows how to use a dril, and said see, you press right here - and put her little finger on the trigger. She's four now, it just amazes me that she remembers it in such detail. We're all camping out in sleeping bags in the living room tonight, she and her brother are sleeping soundly. They are the sweetest things. :)” 8:33:12 PM 4/12/03 “Another baseball report.... This time I'm bragging on all of the kids on the team. We played the first place team on Friday night and walloped 'em, 15-7! Now we're in first place! The kids hadn't played in about 10 days, due to rain, but they were awesome. Hard to believe a bunch of 7-9 year olds could play such good baseball - wow! Cameron was 1 for 4, with his hit being a long liner into deep right-center for a long single. He's batting .417 for the season now. He played catcher for 3 innings and decided he didn't like it.... One of the kids took a ball in the nose/mouth before the game, but toughed it out and got a couple of big hits and made some good fielding plays. Another kid fielded a grounder at short, stepped on second and threw to first for a double play. Amazing!!!” 3:22:26 PM 4/20/03 That's My Girl 8:23:19 PM 4/22/03 “How cute! don't they love those headlamps, lol!” 8:53:39 PM 4/22/03 “My son who is 19 took off today to attend the E3 (Electronic, Entertainment Expo) conference in Los Angeles. He called me around 9:00 PM Central time to let me know he arrived safely. This conference is for the media only and since he does reporting for a website Ultimate Gamez he was able to receive a media pass to this event. Tonight he missed a Microsoft Conference since he got there so late and tomorrow he gets to attend a meeting with the folks from Nintendo where they will show and tell what the next big video game is. The big event E3 starts Wed and continues till Friday evening. He was extremely excited to attend this event since it is suppose to be the biggest and best electronic show.” 11:45:28 PM 5/12/03 “Wow, nineteen year olds have the coolest jobs these days. I was a waitress at college when I was nineteen.” 8:24:37 AM 5/13/03 “Man, today's kids have all the http://www.yad2m.com/whatsnew/02/e3/pages/lakers.htm">fun. Here's a few pixs of last years event. Wish I was there!” 8:40:27 AM 5/13/03 “LyndyS, my son just finished his freshman yr in college and he does have a job as a waiter. He does the reporting for the website for fun, plus he gets all of the new video games to sample. Stovestomper, my son did mention that there was going to be lots of hot babes at this show. He had a list that showed all of the celebrities that are going to be there. He is going to try to get his picture taken with as many as he can. Out of all the people who is going to be at this event he wants to meet and have his picture taken with Bill Gates.” 8:57:26 AM 5/13/03 “Kewl Beans. Ewker - you have mail.” 9:00:49 AM 5/13/03 “Some baseball news.... Cameron hit two doubles Sunday evening to help his team to a 7-2 record. The second one was the first time he ever hit a ball that went over an outfielder's head! Today is a big day for him. School dance ensemble rehearsal at 3. Piano recital (including "Circus Grand March, Entrance of the Gladiators" - you'd know it if you heard it) at 4. Ballet rehearsal at 4:45. Baseball game at 5:30 (against one of the only two teams to beat "us"). Whew!” 10:40:03 AM 5/13/03 “can anyone explain what Kewl Beans are?” 10:41:19 AM 5/13/03 Woohoo! “Sauron starts his first official summer job tomorrow. It's just a bussboy thing but it's a good start for a 15 year old. Everybody head down to Hot Foods By Calvin and be nice to the really, really tall kid!” 8:13:42 AM 5/23/03 “good for him skully. twignut starts her gig next month. its good for them.” 8:26:28 AM 5/23/03 “I don't brag on my kids until the college loans get paid off. Then there will be a lot of hootin' and hollerin'.” 8:33:21 AM 5/23/03 “My kid is going to college for three weeks this summer. He is 12. Johns Hopkins has a program for kids who are on the ball. He gets to take the SATs next year when he'll be in 7th grade. Now that'll be interesting!” 8:56:50 AM 5/23/03 “I am very proud to announce a new addition to my family of a 6lb 8oz baby girl from my youngest daughter born 11:45 pm est 28 may 03. :} :} :} :} :} :}” 2:37:20 AM 5/30/03 “congratulations!! pictures! we want to see pictures!!” 5:45:36 AM 5/30/03 “Congratulations DOM! What's your newest grandbaby's name?” 7:28:10 AM 5/30/03 “Wow, you are a granddaddy! Congratulations! Sorry about the hike again, but June is end of school year madness in NJ. Keep posting your trips.” 8:06:59 AM 5/30/03 “last I heard shes going to be called amythest (sp?) , amy for short... I would post a pic but I dont have one yet.” 8:48:20 AM 5/30/03 “Congrats, DOM!” 8:49:12 AM 5/30/03 “Wow, DOM. You must be really old. j/k - Congrats!!” 10:02:29 AM 5/30/03 Congratulations DOM! “Today Abigail, (28 mos) took her first hike w/o the carrier. At 28 pounds she's getting to be too heavy for it, and she's way too wiggly! She ended up hiking a mile, give or take a few feet. She also learned how to tinkle in the woods. She was so impressed by the whole deal she did it twice! =D I stressed that we only do it that way while hiking, lol. here are the pics She was totally into the birdsong, telling us to be quiet (in a whisper) so we could listen, and also the wildflowers. Every new one she saw was sniffed and touched. The sticks were all inspected and carried for a bit too.” 11:00:20 PM 6/01/03 “That's so cool, Sass. Glad it was a great experience for her (and the proud mom and dad). I was at my daughter's H.S. graduation party today up in Marquette. Her mom had put together a big picture board of snapshots from the past nearly 18 years, including a lot from when she was an infant, toddler and pre-schooler. It was such a mix of emotions to see my "little" girl in all the stages of her life all at once. These big steps in their lives are to be savored. Thanks for sharing the experience. BTW, the above link said no can do, I wasn't the owner of the album. But I found the pics by going to the Manistee River pics link, and Little Hiker was in the menu on the left of the screen.” 11:52:24 PM 6/01/03 “Darn I guess I better break out the whip and get this grand-daughter into shape, shes obviously a slacker....” 5:01:16 AM 6/02/03 “Or just a teeny weeny newbie, lol. I think Abigail went on her first overnighter @ 5 months. I DO NOT recommend that, lol. second try!” 8:13:27 AM 6/02/03 “Sass...those pics are so awesome...what a sweetie. Looks like you had a wonderful day.” 8:44:25 AM 6/02/03 “Excellent !!” 9:25:33 AM 6/02/03 “Baseball update! Cameron's team clinched 2nd place on Saturday, with a 13-3 victory over the 3rd place team. They got 21 hits, and made several amazing fielding plays. In one of them, Cameron was playing first base, there was a runner on first with 2 outs, and the batter hit a grounder to third. Our third baseman picked it up, and made a poor throw to Cameron. He came off the bag to catch it, and the baserunner who was on first rounded 2nd to head to third. Cameron fired it to third, and the kid tagged out the runner for out #3. The team has the lowest runs allowed per game average of any team at any level in our city (about 3.5 runs per game). Playoffs are next week, with the semis on Wednesday and Thursday and the final on Saturday. Updates to follow!!” 10:50:07 AM 6/02/03 “Nothing to report except my son turned 13 yesterday. I think it had a bigger impact on me than it did him. Somehow though, realizing a have a teenage son probably is not going to impact me like it will when my daughter turns 13 in four years.” 11:00:39 AM 6/02/03 “#2 son's last day of school was Friday, he'll graduate high school Friday. I took a pic of him getting ready to drive his car to school for the last time, to go with the pic of him boarding the school bus for the first day of kindergarten. Seems like just yesterday. Hmm. Must have something in my eye...” 11:52:39 AM 6/02/03 “I understand Savage makes a really nice shotgun, chili...helpful for persuading potential suitors to bring your daughter home both on time and in the same condition in which they left.” 11:56:32 AM 6/02/03 “le Subtil, I'm sharing the same spec of dust in the eye. On the picture board I mentioned above, my ex had a sequence of my daughter's first day of school departure photos from K through 12. Good material for one of those morphing programs. Talk about time travel, this having a kid graduate proves it exists. Give a hearty handshake and a congrats to your son from me.” 4:00:38 PM 6/02/03 “Daughter (10) was one of only 2 4th graders with straight A's the entire year. She got a letter from the President, W, my man. I'm so proud.” 5:04:03 PM 6/02/03 “Wow, that is great, mtnman! I know my daughter (10) is one of the top students and she has really struggled to get her A's. I think she will have a B in math, so she won't have a straight set, but I think that is fine; gives her something to work towards. Your daughter deserves a lot of credit for her high grades.” 5:43:39 PM 6/02/03 “Congrats mtnman!! While we are bragging my I just received my 12 year olds reportcard in the mail. I was plesantly surprised, all A's even in pre-algegra. I am really proud of him!!!” 6:19:58 PM 6/02/03 “Great Gemini! I hated algebra. Sheer torture.” 6:26:48 PM 6/02/03 TOURNEY TIME! “my 9 yr old is playing in the 2nd round tonight agin the #1 seed, who has only lost once this whole year. it will be tough but if they play well, it's possible to beat them. they beat us by 1 during the season. the team is in a mojor hitting slump(drives me crazy cuz i'm not the coach). the first playoff game, my boy(awesome little player!) got beaned right on the melon on the second pitch...DOINK! the cround gasped in unison but he hopped up and sprinted to first....stole second, then 3rd...then home on a passed ball... my 11 yr old(11 & 12 league)plays in the 3rd round tonight. we had a STUPENDOUS victory last night over the #1 seed by a score of 8-6, who was undefeated on the year. these guys have some AWESOME pitchers and our boys got it done. all the kids did great and it was just a wonderfull thing to be a part of. also, the #2, 3 & 4 seed all lost last night. 2 more wins and we are the champs! it's not a given by any means but we have beat all the remaining teams , during the regular season. i come home from these games all sweaty cuz i pitch batting practice to the whole team and it's been really hot and humid. i throw pretty hard cuz i want them to get better and it seems to be helpinh alot.....they've been spanking the ball! if we play our best(which we haven't really done too many times this year) we will win the tourney. you never know if the kids will be "up" or not.....wish us luck!” 1:27:10 PM 6/25/03 OH YEAH! “and the other thing about this is that i'll be free to hike FINALLY! i coashed basketball this spring and then baseball satrted right after that and i coached TWO of my boys so i have been tied to town for awhile now....i'm looking forward to getting out. bugs and heat don't really bother me too much as long as i'm near water. the first thing i'm gonna do is hike over to 2scoops' place and b!tchslap him for razzing me about not hiking.......” 1:40:40 PM 6/25/03 “Way to go. I love that level of baseball. Its beautiful to see a bunch of kids who just a few years ago were all chasing the ball all over the field, learn how to play, back each other up, turn two, rotate in the infield, throw strikes, slide, take big turns rounding the bases, listen to their base coaches, encourage their teammates, win with grace, lose with grace, and all the while have fun. Best of luck to your sons.” 1:45:59 PM 6/25/03 “He's not MY kid but I claim him. My youngest nephew (8 yo) has been tested as having a very high IQ and will be put into the "Gifted" program at his school next session. I've always said from the time he was 3 that he was way smarter than either of his parents! ;)” 1:48:42 PM 6/25/03 “thanks limpie! las tnight i was coaching 3rd and one of my guys comes in from second and i'm waving him home but he turned to look at the ball in the outfeild instead of running so i was all RUN GO RUN GO RUN GO and i chased him down the line yelling that at him....lol.....i get into it...i love sending steal signals to them and getting them pumped up before they bat....that's my specialty, motivation....i know just how to get them going.... what's really cool about this team is we've been underestimated all year and we knew we had potential if we could just tap into it. they #1 team we beat last night was SHOCKED! the whole croud(all the other teams were watching) was stunned....we were the only ones who weren't suprized. elated, but not suprized...” 1:52:50 PM 6/25/03 “stove, that's great! all 3 of my boys are in GT(gifted and talented). my 11 yr old missed straight A's by 3 points this year and my 9 yr old missed straight A's by ONE POINT! they are good hearted kids, i am very fortunate that way.... my 5 yr old scares the hell outta me though, lolz....he onwry as the day is long....” 1:56:41 PM 6/25/03 “Strat, that's great about your kids. I have an older nephew (11 yo) I say will either grow up to be governor or else be in prison. This kid I say will just grow up and be put in prison. ;) He's a handfull, sweet kid, but a lot of devil in him. He's an only child and my sister has him spoiled rotten. Of course good ol uncle NEVER spoils any of my nieces or nephews. ;) Spoil them rotten and THEN hand them back to my brother and sisters. ;)” 2:13:10 PM 6/25/03 “Dewd, You seem like an intense coach. Calmly remind them NOT to watch the ball but to find YOU as they round second base! Let them know that they WILL hear your instructions (probably even deaf kids would, right) and that you will be giving them hand and arm signals for them to see. They will only be getting more excited and it would be a shame for a kid to get tagged out at home on a close play because he looked over his shoulder or because of indecision on the basepaths. WHAT WOULD BE TRULY A SIN WOULD BE FOR A KID TO GET CALLED OUT BECAUSE HIS COACH LEFT "THE COACHING BOX" AND CHASED HIM HOME. Again, goodluck. (It is sweet when all the other teams' kids are rooting for your boys, isn't it?)” 2:28:51 PM 6/25/03 “lol limpy, YES! about half way home i'm like thinkin....oh man, i better get back! i touched one one time eariler in the year, on the shoulder, and they called him out.....NOT GOOD! lol. yeah, i'm intence all right. it was the winning run, what do you expect? lol. good advise you gave, and that's exactly what i told him after i got back to the dugout... stove , that sounds like my youngin, tons of petential....to go either way...lol” 3:41:56 PM 6/25/03 “I got a kid who may end up being a math prof, I just gotta keep him out of a shack in Montana” 9:20:00 PM 6/25/03 “well....both my kids are loosers tonight......it's off to boarding school first thing in the morning for them.....” 11:12:35 PM 6/25/03 Jump to Page << prev
