Thanks NG.

Shawn: I dunno where he gets this stuff, I will have to find out and bottle a little for myself.

I dunno if you are serious or joking LtH, but thats a pretty big landmark when you are sick of changing diapers.

Infant poop never bothered me - but by the time they are ready to use the pot - those things can get pretty Sh%$#y (to coin a phrase).

Congrats to the boy Ped! That's really awsome.

My wonderful son got suspended from school last week, a little fistfight did the trick.

Ain't that great!

Thanks twig, lvy and roam.

This boy got himself suspended from school once, too. He refused to let security check a soda container he was bringing to a school dance. I'm sure there will plenty of headaches to go along with the good news.

Yeah, headaches go with the territory. Overall he's not bad, just a little stubborn (well, ok a lot stubborn). No idea where that comes from.

Well after Pedxing posting about his MENSA canidate son I felt that I had to brag about my kid. It is the little thing right now that he does that are just incredible.
Not quite ready for the power rangers underwear yet. I don't think they are even still around. Maybe Barney Boxers.

I'm pretty sure you can still get Power Rangers underwear. At least you could two years ago. I'll ask my wife, she knows about such things, lol...

Ped, congratulations on your son's accomplishments. In a general sense, how has the overseas thing worked for a kid? My 17 yo daughter is applying for an AFS program in Spain next summer.

Tex:
It's worked really well for him. He is actually staying with a friend of my grandfathers - a Chinese man who develops educational trips to China for College and Secondary School Teachers. He is enrolled as a foreign language student at a college there, but isn't part of any program international program Partly this is because by the time the SARS epidemic died down, it was too late to apply - but also because my Dad knew and trusted some people there.

He's really enjoying the mix of Chinese, American International kids. I gave him some serious talks about Chinese moral values and the under-reporting of AIDs in China - and his host has educated him about most other things.

Spain sounds great. That's where I'd have gone if I had a chance to do something like that as a kid. I think if your daughter is outgoing or has good friends who are going.

My turn!

I just put my daughter on a plane going back to Notre Dame. Pretty proud pappa here, in spite of the tears when she leaves. All "A's" but for a "B+" last semester, student senate, major player in VDay program on campus (Vagina Monologs-an anti violence against women movement), lots of effort convincing the powers that they need a woman's resource center on that very conservative campus, and a nice boy friend. Wish I had half the passion and energy, I am in awe. Thank you God!

shawn, I know what you mean. Just delivered my daughter back to U-Mich last week. Her first semester in the Honors Program: two A+, one A- and a B+, along with 2nd place in a German studies contest. The A+ grades are recognition of extra-superior work but offer no more points above the 4.0 for an A, though she's the type to be motivated even more than she already is.

I'm in college still, in my last year, and coming from a student, it's wondeful to have your parents be proud of you with your achievements. The workload in college is really tough (at least mine is, but I'm also working on seinor thesis) and it's great to hear my parents tell me they're so proud of me every once in a while. Makes me feel like what I'm doing is worth it.

My daughter Dani just graduated last year magna cum laude from BU with a degree in Marine Biology, and was accepted into a doctoral program at Nothwestern, all on academic scholarships. My daughter Meg graduated last year from Baldwin-Wallace U, also on full academic scholarship. (twins). My son Jesse is a bum like me. Sigh. Two out of three ain't bad! Last year Dani got to spend six weeks in Equador, three at a rainforest research station, three in the Galapagos islands. She was there when that volcano blew near Quito. Pretty scary for a parent many miles away.

Slugman, marine biologist is one of my son't avowed career goals (at age 13 it changes almost weekly). You have every reason to be proud of them. Quite an accomplishment.

Hey cool, my daughter wants to be a marine biologist too. She is majorly fascinated by dolphins right now (at 11). Did your daughter do a paper about her studies at Galapagos Islands? Anything online that my daughter could read?

Hey, some of you may have met Dani. She spent two summers as an intern at the Boston Aquarium. I think they made her feed the fish or something!lol. Anybody remember the Seinfeld episode where George pretended to be a marine biologist, and he had to save the whale by reaching into it's blowhole to retrieve the golf ball hit there by Kramer? LMAO at that one.

I found this handwritten by the computer yesterday evening. My daughter wrote it as a homework assignment:

A boy, now a man;
He is my hero, and all time best friend.
Gone for a year, no face in sight;
Only a letter now and again.
Singing songs of national joy, brings a tear to his sister's eye;
Like a knife through her heart.
In hope to see his family soon, he risks his life to the enemy.
As the humming tank rides along the Iraqi roads, he hears CRUSH underneath him.
His heart rushes as he thinks of things back home.
So many things have happened, and he's unable to experience them with his family.
A soldier, in hope of returning home soon, prays for his life
every night as his eyes close for a restless sleep

Dang I've got great kids!

So, you people with kids, does that make all the frustrating times with them worth it all?
smiley girl

smiley girl,
the frustrating times totally pale in comparison to the blessings and good times that come with the kids.

my two year old boy believes that he has to remove his diaper all the time. the last two days in a row we have went to get him from his afternoon nap. he removed his diaper and crapped everywhere. and the room is a mess so there is crap on everything; books, clothes, toys. first he thrashes the room and then he craps everywhere. then he gets his bare ass smacked. and there was wailing and gnashing of teeth.

he will probably do it again today.

c bat - those are the things you will laugh about later...or use as blackmail.

Smiley I have found that the most frustrating times with my kids have more to do with my expectations than their behavior. Of course I've felt lucky 100% of the time because there have been so few bad times. Thank you Lord for good kids!!!!

I just spent the day with my daughter in Preschool. It was fun. The teachers say she is a wonderful child and is advanced in many areas. Her social skills are not where they are at because she is a young four. All in all, it was funny watching her learn.

Well I never thought I'd post on this thread.

For everyone who read the 'What would you do' (no ?) and to every father who needed and, I hope, got some encouragement, you will understand that this is a sweet moment for me.

My daughter, Suzanne, is finishing her second year in media studies at Laurentian University in northeastern Ontario. Yesterday evening was their short programme competition and her team won 'Best Film'.

They're on a plaque and they received a cheque for 1 500$ and an invitation to Sudbury's Cinéfest, the fourth largest in Canada.

They are submitting to Sundance.

Woo Hoo!
