well there was one odd thing about the treasure maps - I didn't hide any treasure...and the maps were just designs I drew on paper...

lol at bit!

I remember back about 2 years ago seeing a commercial on TV like that!

It's all about Valentine's Day and getting the man in your like something he will never forget. I want to say it was a Lover's Lane commercial.

It starts off showing a boreing housewife and her husband and their small kids. Next thing you know, she is posing in front of dad and the kids in a latex body suit. The camera cuts to dad all hot and bothered walking upstairs with mom, leaving the kids downstairs to fend for themselves.

we're number 1 babybee!
Yesterday my 19-year-old son played in the State Tournament for Special Olympics basketball. This is his third year on the team and they won the state championship! We could not believe how well they did. Chris, my son, sank one from three-point land when they were down two in the final game. You might think that Special Olympics events are not that competitive but these kids were totally serious. They were flying all over the court, getting knocked down & jumping back up again, when on defense they were right in the ball handlers faces, it was amazing. I hardly have a voice left today from all the screaming yesterday. A very proud moment for our family.

Well… not “my” kids this time but I wanted to brag about the team from our local high school winning the national title in the “We the People: The Citizen and the Constitution” competition for the second year in a row. These are some amazing nerds!

EAST BRUNSWICK CHAMPS HOME

EAST BRUNSWICK — After anxiously waiting more than 30 minutes for their arrival, proud parents and family members erupted in applause as 29 seniors from East Brunswick High School filed from a cherry-red charter bus with gold medals dangling from their necks.

The families, cradling bouquets of flowers and colorful balloons, beamed as they greeted the "We the People" competition winners with cheers and screams.

"This is awesome," one student shouted as he hopped off the bus and relished the attention.

The team repeated as national champions Monday in "We the People: The Citizen and the Constitution" competition and returned to the school yesterday afternoon.

The academic event focusing on the U.S. Constitution drew teams from the 50 states and the District of Columbia. East Brunswick High School has represented New Jersey 17 times in the 18 years of competition.

The East Brunswick team proved victorious again, marking the third time in eight years the team has earned top honors. The team has finished in the top 10 nationally 16 times and won the competition twice before, in 1998 and 2004.

Alan Brodman, the team's longtime coach and a history teacher at the high school, hoisted a wooden plague as he exited the bus. A smile spread wide across his face, but he soon began to blush and became teary-eyed as his students and their families applauded him.

"Brodman, Brodman, Brodman," the teens chanted, sounding more like a football team after winning a big game.

"You guys deserve this," Brodman said in a booming voice while scanning the semicircle of students that had formed around him. "You're the ones. You're amazing."

Brodman then passed the plaque to one of the students, who excitedly invoked another wave of cheers and chants.

"Yeah," he yelled, dragging out the word as his teammates joined in.

Barry Weinbaum stood on top of a green metal table to snap pictures of his son, Scott. His wife, Barbara, stood to the side, holding two metallic balloons, one of which included the word "congratulations' in bubble letters.

"This was a phenomenal experience for them," she said.

Like his parents, Scott Weinbaum said he was proud of his teammates and thrilled about the national win.

"We worked really hard all year long," 18-year-old Scott Weinbaum said. "After getting first we wouldn't have had it any other way. Everyone did unbelievable. It was pretty exciting. It was fulfilling."

In addition to Weinbaum, members of the team included Rajiv Agarwal, David Baron, Elliot Chiu, Theresa Cui, Yan Cui, Adita Eleswarapu, Michael Gerson, Stephanie Horwitz, Frances Huang, Manisha Johary, Michael Kofsky, Kevin Kuo and Sam Lau.

Also, Alexandra Palmer, Mark Pruce, Paawan Punjabi, Caroline Rana, Natalie Rana, Sana Sheikh, Allison Sorkin, Ilana Stern, Eric Struening, Lauren Volosin, Charles Wachtel, Eric Walker, Kimberly White, Pauline Yang and Angela Ying.

Very proud Uncle here...
My 18 yo nephew, who goes backpacking with me ever now and then (turtle), and a few of y'all met at Deep Creek, soloed for the first time today.
Yep he's a pilot now and can fly.

Also, he's about to graduate from homeschooling.
His ACT scores have earned him full ride scholarship offers from USM and another school so far.

Congrats to your nephew, SS! Did he get his tail clipped?

I soloed in '90. Thank God I was warned about getting my tail clipped and wore one of my worst shirts that day. I still vividly remember looking over at the other seat (2 seater Cessna) on downwind and thinking "holy $#!t, I gotta land this thing on my own"!!! Exciting but scary as heck.

Thanks tech, his mama called me this morning and said he bounced pretty good on the first solo landing but nailed the next four!

She didn't say anything about him getting 'clipped', LOL.

If you don't know, getting your tail clipped involves getting the back of your shirt cut out, and writing the instructor's name, your name, date, etc. on it. Suitable for framing, lol.

The few landings I made that day weren't too bad, but what was really scary was my second take-off. I positioned at the end of the runway, announced my takeoff, throttled up and started my run - just in time to notice the IDIOT that was on final to land straight at me. I hit the brakes and got on to the taxiway; he aborted when he realized he wasn't using the "active" runway. Not a fun experience first time out, but overall I still had a blast.

Deer hunters do something like it too.
He got 'clipped' that way years ago.

I think hunters only clip when you shoot and miss...

The only "first buck" ritual I've heard of was to drink some of the blood.

Not in my neck of the woods.
You get 'clipped' at your first deer kill and a little deer blood is smeared on your cheek.
You just get laughed at for missing.

...after school...this is what my 11 year old does:

1) goes to the bathroom
2) drops ALL his clothes and leaves them behind the door.
3) sits on the pot for one hour
4) plays with his GI Joes while sittin' on the pot.

you think something wrong with him? I think that's just weird.

Gem discussing her kid's potty habits. Imagine the horror that kid would feel if he knew his potty habits were being discussed on the internet.

There is a lot of variation amongst humans for that sort of thing. In high school I had a friend who only took a dump every 3-4 days.
