“My 9 year old recieved a letter at home asking her to come to the Principal's office...

for a pizza and ice cream party honoring her and a handful of other students for their efforts to make the school a more peaceful place.

She's such a sweetheart.”

“Well, the decision to leave BowlderSon home from the winter camping trip up near Lassen over Presidents' Day bore fruit yesterday. He had to stay home because he was behind on his efforts to prepare for his piano exam in a certificate program he entered. The exam was yesterday, and he not only passed, but was invited to play in the honors recital, to be held in 2 weeks!”

Gracie refused to wear a diaper this morning. We have been somewhat getting her into the potty training, but it officially kicked off this morning. I guess at one point she found Barbie in the kitchen and said, "Mommy, I have to go on the big girl potty."”

“soooooo cool WK! that is exactly how it begins. that's how i trained my kids and it goes so much faster when they make the decision.”

“We have not pushed it on her like some of the other family members have with their kids. One tried to start it when the child was 18 months old! They got frustrated and it ended up taking the child morre than 3.5 years to pick it up.

I know it will not take immediatly and I am fine with it. I just wish we wouldn't have made the mistake with rocking her to sleep past one year of age.

Hard to break that habit!”

Do not ask me about my sons... :) but my first daughter was completely potty trained by 20 months old, did it on her own.

And an hour ago she called to tell me she got accepted into Carnegie Mellon!”

“The 2's started exactly how I thought they would. She has Barbie's stubborness and my temper. Two very bad things!

She sure is smart though. She can count to 20, knows her ABC's, colors, shapes and a few other things.

That is great news about your daughter Fritz! The potty training too! :)”

“I don't know that there is any link between potty training and intelligence, and I didn't mean to imply that. Every kid is different. Some kids are late with vocabulary but then all of a sudden speak in full sentences.

“As you may recall, BowlderSon was selected to play as part of the "Honors Recital" after he took his multi-faceted piano exam last Saturday. We found out last night that he was the only one of the 12 kids that his teacher put through the exam program to make it to the Honors level! And only about 30 kids out of the 400 who took the exam achieved this! Woo hoo!!”

“Each high school in the county chooses one kid to audition for an in-state scholarship in theater arts.

Last week Linus(11th grade) was chosen from his school.

“My daughter got a 160 on her LSat. I think that's pretty good. She's starting Law School this fall.”

“Over the weekend, my 16 y/o son was elected State President of the Tennessee DECA Association.

It doesn't look like they updated their website yet to list him with the new officers, but I am very proud of him. He decided to run for the office, did all the groundwork, and managed his interviews and other election requirments all on his own.

He will be going to San Antonio, Orlando and Washington D.C. in the next few months. A few months ago, he went to work for a major bank as an intern. I can't say how relieved I am that I have him almost grown and can see he is on the right track.”

“my pre-schooler took the entrance exam for the local magnet honors school and placed in the 97th percentile (nationwide) for other 4 1/2 year olds which puts her at the 6 year 3 month mark...

i'm so proud of her that i could bust a button!

now if i could just get her to hike more than a 1/2 mile at a time without whining! =p”

“Don't worry about that HC, I have hike with plenty of people a lot older than that who whined all the time.”

I adopted another one tonight. Great kid was in a tough troop that was not really oriented towards his direction. He has a horrid self esteem. LOL took him on his first hike a few weeks ago. Like most kids he just needs to know he matters. That is why I do it. If they want to matter they will.”

I got one to brag on too; Steve Jr went to another race this weekend, he took 3rd place in semi-pro Downhill Mtn Bike Racing!!! This is only his second race in semi-pro class, last time he was 6th out of 27 racers.”

“My oldest has been hired as an apprentice tatoo artist, gets his own chair this week. Soon he will make more money than me.”

“where's he at Pathman, maybe i'll finally think about getting one. maybe. was he already an artist?”

“ABQ, NM. He's been into art since he was 6. This is the first he has found a way to make money at it. Gave up a good job as the beer specialist at Whole Food. I've still got a Calvin and Hobbes drawing he did as a grade schooler. If I was going to get a tatoo, it would be Calvin and Hobbes playing in the snow. :D”

“The place my son is at made him work on a rose for a month before they gave him a chair. Hepatitis and HIV. Tatoos transfer blood. Disposable needles. CA may have health dept certification.”

“Took my daughter for a bike ride last night. She told me she wanted to beat her record (for how far she can ride) we grabbed the dogs and left. She did 3 miles with training wheels. She is getting the hang of it and can balance for a few secs at a time. Soon we can drop the wheels...

She was WHOOPED when she finished.”

“Turner does Mtn Bikes. If you show "all" on this thread, you will know why Steve has sponsership, yeah, I've bragged before; he's an incredibly gifted downhill mtn bike racer.

Here he is in the online magazine, sitting on a bike holding onto a pole in the tumbleweed picture. And on the 3rd place podium, "Semi Pro DH Podium", that's him in the cammy shirt.

My oldest child has 5 names! A first name, two middle names and two last names, (only one of which is legal). Steve Kelly Jr is the only child with a normal name. ErinAnne and BrianSean started out with normal names, but I love their middle names so much, I pushed them together like that.

“BowlderSon played in the piano Honors Recital yesterday with 25 other kids. Whew, there were some real hotshots there! But he fit in just fine with his level. His piece was short and fast, and there were several potential places where one could get fingers all tied up, but he nailed it - video to be posted on webshots later....”

“BrianSean played two Sunday School services today with his band, I should say "one" of his bands, he now is in two. Three if you include concert band at school. He sounded great! The kids were really jumping and praising; incredible!!!”

“my son didn't drink and drive, he got a hotel room. we were all at a wedding this weekend, surfergirl was in it, she and her boyfriend also stayed at the hotel.”

“WAHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! For kids who don't drink & drive!!! For they will save many more lives than just their own.

It shows an amazing maturity level when one realizes that one is incapable of safely controlling a vehicle while in a state of intoxification.

“he just turned 21 this month and he has been having his friends drive him around!”

“Steve Jr turned 21 last August. He lives about 60 miles up the road so I only see him on weekends. When he drinks, he spends the night at his buddies. I am relieved.”
