I'm still sitting on the fence here - I would like to go but 13 hours of driving is a little much for a weekend.

Hey everyone -

stevehiker emailed me and mentioned that he knew of a person from Muskegon that might want to join us too. I have no other details. I told him to email me if they had any questions. Have not heard from them yet, so what ever the tally and one more maybe....

HOI...it's four and a half-five hours past our house (metro detroit). make it here and we'll gladly chauffer you to the trailhead =). Email us if you're interested. Eight hours of driving for a weekend full of new faces and blood thirsty Michigan mosquitos, on a great trout river isn't too much!

Sassafras I appreciate the offer but with the uncertainty being so high it is best if I just plan on going it alone - that way I won't have to worry about holding people up waiting for me and I can be more relaxed about the scheduling. Thanks for the offer and I may see you there at Seaton CG if things work out.

I can't wait for this trip.

I think I'm becoming seriously addicted to these Michigan
Mountaineers hikes.

Could we all quit our jobs and form a hiking commune somehow?

le Subtil - Yes. Tell me what do to... and I'll do it!

Well, since I have no work for the summer and I'm starting to run out of jobs at the house after one day...

...I'll start converting my garage/shed into a spot for the commune. I've got a lava lamp for the work bench and a musty Van Gogh reprint for the wall. All we'll need is shag carpeting:)

I grew up in a commune for the the first third of my life. It was....................interesting.

RL - You're out of stuff to do after only one day???? Wanna come to my house. I can put you to work, for sure!

I can contribute to the commune, as well... I have some beaded curtains and a really great b/w 8x10 of a young Van Morrison. The place will have the greatest decor. I also have several long, flowing skirts and many tie-die t-shirts for the communal closet.

laqtis - interesting, eh? I'd love to hear more about it when we're hiking.

Yup.

I've been busy: mowed the lawn, installed air conditioner #1, went to the dentist...

That is tripped out Laqtis. We'll name Laqtis our Bogwan since he has the most expertise.

Maybe we can cut a deal with the guy who started the "I found pot in my driveway" thread. Or maybe we'll just get a sugar high from the Kool Aid. Anyway...

Sure no prob....I'm just curious because I spent a summer at The Farm in Summertown, TN when I was a sprout. My mom had my youngest brother there.

Hopefully I'll get up Michigan way sometime and hike with you yankees Northerners sometime...

Cool, thanks for understanding! Are you still in Tenn? I have relatives down there in Harriman, south of Knoxville. I LOVE that area. Maybe one day, we'll come down there!!

No, I live in Alabama. Like I said, it was just a summer.

The Knoxville area is very beautiful, excepting Knoxville itself, of course. But around there, yah, it's gorgeous. And lots of good hiking!

So, it's looking like we'll need two sites, for sure, at Seaton Creek. Who's getting there early to secure those? I'm trying to set up a "meeting" for Friday so I can be outta here early!

I'm supposed to be working until 8pm still. I'll fannagle something so we can get going by 5 or 6 hopefully. Seems to me we have two teachers who don't have to do anything that day. ;) Are you up to the site holding task men?
Sassafras
9:13:34 AM
6/12/02

Yep! I'll do it. I have an extra "site holding tent" that we can use. I have been in contact with cow patty. She is the line to AdventureGirl. CP is stopping by AG's work today to see if she can get that weekend off and if she needs a ride. Depending on that will determine when I can get to Seaton, but I would think that either way, we should be there early enough to snag some sites. Any preferences on sites??

I need to drop my brother off at Metro airport at 1PM. I'll go straight up - probably 6 or 7?

Cool. Is Cow Patty coming now? Or is just acting as a liason for AG?

If I play my cards right, I'll be leaving the house around 2 or 2:30. That'll get me there around 6 or so.

CP is not coming. She the "go between" for AG. I will be giving work the finger early that morning and getting the heck outta Dodge as fast as I can. When I gets closer, I'll have a good esimate of an ETA for me.

Boy, Seaton Creek is gonna be one busy place that day!! I'll see what I can do about getting up there any earlier than 6.

To save space at the campground, I could always share a tent w/ someone. Now, I realize that would be a special treat for ya... But, please, don't argue over me. Maybe a friendly bidding war? LOL

Really, though. Sharing a tent is always a possibility if we run out of space. That campground was pretty crowded in mid-May. I'll be it'll be even worse in Mid-June.

Hey - you think they'll let us join in on the Mountaintop Poetry? Sounds pretty interesting to me.

Y'all can have her! I spent one night in the hotel with her before the walk, and that's enough for me! Beware, she snores! :))

Just kidding, Tarabull. I wouldn't want to be responsible for keeping you awake with my tossing and turning.

But, I'm thinking about ditching my plans for the U.P. and coming with you guys! Think I can talk Minne Sota into driving to Seaton Creek??

DAMN!!! And me with only a one person tent. Looks like I'm outta the runnin'.......

Looks like there's gonna be a sizable shing ding a happenin'. Maybe we could have an arm wrasseling contest between the 'Mountaineers and Great Lakes....

Losers gotta carry the beer!

more on AdventureGirl
Tonight I lassoed AdventureGirl at her work and got some info from her. She does need help getting to the hike and she REALLY, REALLY wants to go. She says you guys keep her sane...?? (I didn't ask!) Anyone up for a logistical challenge? I've sent some details in an email to most of y'all.

I'd love to be her chauffeur; no can do cuz of plans in other places. See you next time!

AdventureGirl's dilemma is solved! A big thanks to Sunshine!

AG will be so excited when I let her know she can get to the hike! And it happens to fit in with Sunshine's plans!

laqtis (Q) - I'd actually like to hear ya SAY all that.

I've been known to snore on occasion... but it's nothing compared to my brother (some of you will agree). So, to be nice, I'll be leaving him home that weekend. I'd hate to be responsible for keeping Wexford and Manistee counties awake.

I don't snore, but my dog does. j.k. Should be able to share some tent space if needed. Sass, I'm enviously (wd?) working on trimming weight now. Maybe I'll just put it all on Shane's back :)
I should be able to get up there by 5:30 or 6 barring any unforeseen stops. i.e. cops pulling me over. This is going to be fantastic!! I think I'll take the whole day off!
