This Way Ya'll
I Solo hiked this weekend in IN. The Two Lakes Loop Trail 12.5 m

It was great ended up doing 8 miles the first day when i picked camp in a clear open field. I picked a spot between three pine trees the only trees in the field. Set up ate, etc.

Fell asleep around 8:30 only to wake up to a Buck(deer) grunting heavily next to my tent........not thinking anything of it untill I here......

the sound of motors humming coming up through the field. The next thing I know spot lights are shining through my tent. Scared #&%!$less I grab my boots and open my pocket knife, then I here some one shout, "this way ya'll"

O wonderful its deliverence style man, I dare them to make me sqeel like a pig!!!!!!!!!!thats all that went through my mind when all 7 4x4's dove by. Most likely they shot that buck and he was running while they tracked the blood trail. He didnt sound to well know that I think about his grunt.

So, when the took off I fell back asleep and the next morning I saw there tracks and they came from the middle of no where!!!! not from the trail at least. They almost ran me over thow seeing there tracks that close!!!!!

I guess Im lucky!! reported them to the ranger the next morning believing they where pouchers!!!

After the poachers are caught I'll offer to store the evidence for them.

In my freezer.

Man that's scary. Poachers give hunters a bad rap.

Prowler, what colour was your tent? Did it blend in with the surroundings? Do you think those a-holes spotted you?

stanlee, my tent was blue and I know they must of spotted me w/ there spot lights going through the tent. But then again I had a great spot between three trees!

bacpac,, I hunt quit a bit during season and I am pretty good at calling bucks w/ my caller! So I think I know the sounds of a buck expecially in distress! Being that Ive killed plenty!

Blood trail? Gun shots? I don't know if I could recognize the sex of a deer by the sound of his voice. What does a buck deer in distress sound like?

Prowler, I agree. Poachers are total a-holes. My friends and I reported some antelope poachers a few yrs. ago and they got in serious trouble (they shot 5 antelope in broad daylight and left them all laying in a field). Felt good too!

There is enough food at the supermarket
If you are hunting in order to eat the food, OK then. If you hunt just to kill things and leave the animal to rot, as Newgirl states, then...may God strike you a severe blow...something like 3 days of intestinal rot, would be a good punishment.

Prowler...your lucky they didn;t run you to ground. You better stay in one peice, you gotta make breakfasts on the canoe trip...even if it is weird stuff that you will be cooking. NO INNARDS!!! please.

not to much doe's have more of a lower pitch , kinda (you heard a doe bleet before?) it sounds more in that way rather than a buck grunting!
Prowler

A buck grunts during the rut. This is called a tending grunt and is not typical of the grunts and bleats a deer makes outside the rut. Tending grunts are low in pitch and low in volume. This is the sound you get from hunter grunt tubes.

Perhaps the deer found you arousing.

bucks do tend to grunt in distress as well, not only during the rut! This past spring I had a BUCK stuck in a fence with a front leg broken and he was grunting! Bucks dont always have a normal routine as to what noises they make, F!!ck this im not going to sit here and listen to your bull sh!!t about what it was I KNOW WHAT IT WAS!! not only noises but by tracks so chill!

I dont plan on putting you on my bad side necause of what hppened last weekened but im heading that way!!!!!!

prowler, eventually you will realize that if you get pissed off, then bacpac wins.

Wrestling with a pig in the mud is an interesting way to spend one's time, but eventually you will come to realize that the pig actually enjoys it.

I just find it disappointing that so many hikers put down the locals as unlawful thugs out to destroy. A few guys in trucks turn into a poaching raid, because of an over imaginative fearful camper.

There were no guns, no blood, no cursing, no hassles, just some guys driving in the woods.

"I can tell a buck by the sound of his voice." What a crock.

VOICE WHAT VOICE jack ass! I can get probably a dozen HUNTERS on here and they will tell you bucks do grunt in distress! Wouldnt you!!!!!!!!! or you gonna sit like a B!!TCH when some poucher comes blast you in your ass!

Do they need to curse and Hassle some one to be a poucher??
Your now putting down the locals!
