Savage Gulf
Well, I went on katibug's trek to Savage Gulf this weekend, and I have to say, I was very impressed with the other members of the party. Now, lest you think I am overly impressed with myself, you must understand, I've gone solo for the last 30 years. I've never cared much for the company of others. That changed this weekend. I met the finest group of people I could ever care to know. I am very proud to have shared the trail with Katherine(sp?), Katy, Nancy (the toughest S.O.B. (D.O.B.?) on the trail--This woman did the hike with a knee brace--I am not worthy...; Tim the bushwhacker (har, har) Bob, David, Stan and Bill. I'll do the wilderness with any of y'all, any time, if you'll have me. Your're all aces in my book.

Hello, walkindude. We went from Savage station via the North rim trail to Hobbs Cabin, then down the connector to sawmill, across the stage road trail to the campsite of the same name and back to Savage. Nice little trek.

Father Goose -

You sir can be my wingman anytime. I had a great time on our SG trek and it was the mix of personalities that made the Stage Road tolerable. No doubt; a strong group of hikers and great camp chemistry. Some things I learned: 1) Shortcuts are usually NOT 2) Toilet paper is light. Pack more. 3) Hammocks are a little breezy in 28 degree weather. 4) Backpackers Pantry re-fried beans are off my list of trail chow.

Tell us the one about the old man in the bar.

I agree with Father Goose and Searcher and Katibug -- the folks on this trip made it one of the best backpacking experiences I've had. Sorry if that seems excessive, but I just calls 'em as I sees 'em...

When are we goin again, huh? :)

Savage Gulf is a fun place. Sounds like yall had a blast. Did yall get to stay in the cabin?

No, walkindude, we had to sleep on the ground like a bunch of red-headed stepchildren. A group of juvenile delinquents had taken over the cabin. Its just as well. Those racks are too narrow for my taste, anyway.

why sleep in a rack
when you could be stretched on one. I feel that the best torture devices are behind us...in the medeviel centuries...the rack is my favorite...ooooohhhhh, just a little more pleeeease.
