Burr Oak Ohio Hiking

“I need to check out the route I'm taking my backpacking kids on at the end of July. I thought I'd hike it first to see how far and where i would camp with the kids. Anyone wanna do it with me-this would be a good opportuity for someone who is needing a slower paced hike with lake fishing. I've hiked most of it but it has been awhile.”

“I may go! Ill bring my two kids and my wife ! They are slower paced than I am so it would be good for me to go off and fish then catch up to her later! Let me know the dates and Ill give you a definet!”

“This is a overniter backpack trip, but good for beginners. What are the ages of your kids-the kids I'm walking this trip out for is 12-17.”

“3 and 1, but the 3 year old can handle 3+ miles a day! we have packs for them so we are used to the idea of packng them in! NP!”

“Budder and I did that trail year before last and it was a nice trail. The north side of the lake the trail was being rerouted and they used a bulldozer to do it with. It made it hard to walk on the catapiler tracks and the bulldozer had an easier time of going right up and over a hill than hikers do. One plus is that the trail was never hard to follow though. 8)”

I just picked up a bunch of Ohio books. "Backpack Loops in Southern Ohio", "The Ohio Nature Almanac" and "Trail Guide to the Cuyahoga NRA." Some interesting stuff.

I got so excited I headed out to the CVNP. Not a bad place. Guess I'll be doing some Ohio hiking this summer.

Anyone ever backpack the Mohican SF/SP?”

“Backpacking Loops and Long Day Hikes in Southern Ohio is a super book. I also have the 50 Hikes in Ohio book and it has a lot of the neat smaller places for day hiking. If ya make it down Dayton way we'll have to hike Clifton Gorge and Glen Helan Reserve. It'd knock your socks off! Old Man's Cave Are is a must see also.”

“Yeh, Buddha, I was thinking the same thing... And what about this supposed foot problem he has. How was he hiking with that pain?

It was my spring break week, and I got cabin fever, so I needed to go somewhere. I drove down to Cleveland, hoping that my foot would feel better when I was there.

I really didn't hike at all - except a few hundred feet down to Blue Hen Falls. It was cool, and I scouted some good trail. But, again, frustrating.

Anyway, it was a spur of the moment thing. Next time around, I'll give someone the heads up.”

“Prowler-I don't think I'm up for hiking with a 1 and 3 year old, I'm sure they are great but I don't have what it takes. I think I'm getting too old. I want to camp out in the woods (stelth) maybe. I'm thinking maybe some of the folks who want to fish along the way and maybe do about 5-6 miles a day, Fri night, all day Sat. and hike out by Sun afternoon. I'm up for an after work hike at the Glen anytime you and the family are ready-Gonzo and family said they want to go too. Let's pick a day.”

“When I go there I stealth camp because the areas they want you to use are small car camping grounds at boat ramps around the lake. If you check in with the ranger they will more than likely let you camp up at the group camping area.”
