Renting A Pack

“Gear Trade has a couple really good prices on packs right now. There is a Camp Trails Night Song (women's model) for $40, but you might be able to talk the seller down a bid. Renting one couldn't be that much cheaper... Link is below for the pack.

There should be a tent space that's acceptable. I'd just concentrate on the pack, bag, pad, shoes. There should be plenty of stoves and cooking pots, water filters, etc., to share.”

No, Chili, I said that I thought I was going to learn alot on this trip about bping (the hard way) and that I hoped the fellow hikers were up for teaching me. I am looking for a tent, as well as a pack. So . . . you see how twisted this stuff becomes.”

“Sunlight Sports is having a 'Gamblers Sale' of sorts. When I drove by at lunch I saw in their window. Starts at like 20% off the first day and goes to 50 or 60% off by the last day. I'll try get down there and see what is on sale. Probably just those dopey snowboards and other stuf nobody wants.”

if ya get reeaallly desparate walmart sells camptrail tents for about 30.00 they are single wall dome tents but dont expect too much out of them.

one other thing to check... cotton
clothes!...in short leave it home...if you can arrange it much of the hardware can and should be shared like stoves. if you concentrate on your pack , bag and clothing the rest you can arrange to share..”

“I think you should go down to the Base Camp and have them show you how to fit the packs and show you all the cool features. Then shop around for the best deals! I actually got a good deal on a tent there last year after I found it cheaper on-line; so they beat that price.

You should get a good one and then you'll be more motivated to keep getting out to protect your investment!”

“I'm going to go check out the exihibit @ the Yellowstone Art Museum on Sun. I'll probably shop around for a pack or pack rental then. In the current situation, it is just hard for me to justify spending the kind of dough it takes to get a nice pack.”

Well, go figure, there is NO backpacking gear on sale. Just skiing and snowboarding equipment. 20% off this week, 30% next week and 40% the week after that. The guy said "we will probably pull some of these boards next week and use them as rental boards cuz we can make way more money".

Knowing the guy who owns the place, and many of the buildings downtown, it doesn't surprise me.

Snownymph, they have Solomon 'performance' snowboards priced at $230, is that a good price? I'm thinking about buying my daughter one.”

Snow, she was at the place a week or so with mom, and she picked out what my wife said was a featherlight (?). I assume it is a Burton board. Price was $500. I don't know if he has it on sale or not. The price marke on the Solomon was $439, marked down to $289, with a 20% discount.”

“I am in the same boat as you. I have a few things but no tent or pack yet. I have decided to rent first before I buy that way I don't waste my money on something I may not like.”

I have a Mountainsmith Chimera that you can borrow. I can get it back after Montanapalooza, or you can mail it back.

Its 4500 cu in, weighs 3 lb 14 oz. It has a small waistbelt, but from your photo, you don't look very big, so it might fit.
