“I did a quick check, and didn't find any other trips the previous weekend, that is, Sep. 21-22.

Of course, this is all moot if everybody else has already asked for the 27th off.”

“My "Tired Old Farts on the AT" trip is Oct. 21-25, but I could probably get away for a weekend earlier in the month.”

“I'm planning on getting a trip up for Sipsey in February. I've been thinking about it lately and am thinking 3 days of basecamping. I would like to explore the Quilan Creek area(off trail) and maybe go back to West Bee Branch(off trail). I'll start a thread in late fall.

“I'm curious about the Quillan Creek area too. Heard that there are a couple of good places back there. I don't have a February trip yet, sounds like a good one...”

“I took a trip there last Feb and stealth camped. We used it as a basecamp and explored some off trail areas. I think it got down to a whopping 35*. I haven't thawed out yet. The campsite was only 1.5 miles from the trailhead. I actually took a six-pack of beer, in bottles and kept it cool in a creek. We had shrimp jumbalaya for supper and cold Bud. Hiking the bottles out wasn't too much fun. Oh well.”

“I can go most any time if given enough notice. Dayhiker is corect the water falls are running better in the winter months. The biggest problem is you can have enough rain that you can't cross borden or Sipsey. The best time is when the water falls are frozen over. Sept, Oct, Feb, this weekend, no I gotta work this weekend. Any time is ok for me.

Dayhiker I have noticed you have a perticular interest in the Quillian creek area. Is it something specific you are looking for? Some of that area was/is Sacred to the indians. I say is because some folks of indian hertiage still go to some of those places today. There are a couple of places that most of them don't know about, they mostly go to the shelter and such. These places are not easy to find. That area is pretty rough going. I have been to some sites, but out of respect for the Indians of years ago I won't take anyone there. But if ya want to do some scouting and happen upon a place that would be differant. I'll give you a hint.
"read the signs" The indians left a lot of em you just have to learn read them.

“i was foolish in my young age *snickers*...i used to hike only in the late spring and summer...FUNK THAT!!..I'm gearing up so i'll be able to enjoy colder weather hiking...it's alot easier to navigate the sipsey and other places with the leaves gone...
If i don't start hiking TN and other more northern locals..i'll be hitting the sipsey every free weekend..one saving point about decatur..only 30 mins away...

“The last weekend in September is about the only free weekend for me. I'm locked into other trips for a while starting in September.”

“I read a report on another site about Quinlan creek and saw some pictures of a waterfall where the spill way had eroded through the rock about 2 feet before the edge. It looked like a waterfall with a small rock bride over it. The two reports and pictures of the area sounded great. Also, I've beaten 209 to death. I'm ready for something new and this area sounded interesting. I did not know about the Indian places. I do know about the Kinlock Shelter, but have not been able to go yet.

Also, I have heard about a 100' waterfall inside of a cave. Does this actually exist?”
