I believe they are of the position that they are a good thing but ultimately the gun owner's responsibility. See, they unlike you, believe in freedom.

The NRA also does not believe slapping a lock on a gun is the only way to stay safe with children. They actually educate them. They have now educated over 20 million kids on gun safety.

HOUSTON, Texas (CNN) -- NASA is concentrating on a review of its security procedures as officials try to figure out how a contract worker smuggled a handgun into the Johnson Space Center, where he killed another employee and himself, a spokesman said Saturday.

The gunman, armed with a snub-nosed revolver, barricaded himself in a building that houses communications and tracking systems for the space shuttle. In addition to killing a man before taking his own life, he had duct-taped a woman to a chair, holding her for hours, police said. The woman hostage escaped, suffering minor injuries.

Another upstanding gun owner snaps.

FEDERAL WAY, Wash. - The 15-year-old son of a Washington state trooper whose weapons were stolen yesterday has been arrested for the theft, police said.
The boy, a student at E.B. Walker High School in Puyallup, was arrested late Thursday for investigation of six counts of weapons theft, said Pierce County sheriff's spokesman Ed Troyer. He is being held at Pierce County's juvenile facility.

Also arrested were two boys to whom he allegedly provided the guns. Those boys, 15 and 16, are students at Todd Beamer High School in Federal Way.

Three of the guns were discovered in the possession of the 15-year-old Todd Beamer student on Thursday, prompting an hourlong lockdown on campus. Investigators found the other three guns in a garbage bin outside the 16-year-old's apartment in Federal Way, the Federal Way School District reported.

State Patrol spokesman Mark Lewis said it was not yet clear how the boy who took the weapons to school knew the boy who stole them.

More Kentucky morons...
HICKMAN, Kentucky (AP) -- Officials released a prisoner from a state facility after receiving a phony fax that ordered the man be freed, and didn't catch the mistake for nearly two weeks.

Timothy Rouse, 19, is charged with beating an elderly western Kentucky man and was at the Kentucky Correctional & Psychiatric Center in La Grange for a mental evaluation. He was released from that facility on April 6 after officials received the fake court order.

It contained grammatical errors, was not typed on letterhead and was faxed from a local grocery store. The fax falsely claimed that the Kentucky Supreme Court "demanded" Rouse be released.

Lexington police arrested Rouse at his mother's home Thursday evening.

"It's outrageous that it happened," Fulton County Attorney Rick Major said. "I'm just glad nobody got hurt, because he's dangerous."

Police are still investigating who faxed the phony order.

Attorney Carlos Moran, who is representing Rouse, declined to comment.

Prison officials did not notice that the fax came from a grocery store because policies did not require checking the source of a faxed order, said Greg Taylor, the LaGrange facility's director.

"It's not part of a routine check, but certainly, in hindsight, that would perhaps have caused somebody to ask a question," he said. He added that misspellings on orders are common.

A man legally carrying a concealed firearm bravely foils a robbery:

Link to Story

John Lovell had just finished dinner at about 11: 15 p.m. Wednesday when, Plantation police say, two men armed with guns rushed inside a Subway shop and demanded cash. After robbing the store, the men turned to Lovell. They wanted his money, police said.

But like his attackers, Lovell was armed. The retired military man opened fire, shooting dead Donicio Arrindell, 22, of North Lauderdale, and critically injuring Fredrick Gadson, 21, of Fort Lauderdale.

Lovell, 71, of Plantation, has a valid concealed weapons permit and is not expected to be charged in the shooting, said police spokesman Detective Robert Rettig. Gadson, however, faces multiple felony charges that could include murder, he said.

But Gadson's grandmother, Rosa Jones, said: "He ain't no hero. He is a murderer and God will serve justice."

She and her husband, Ivory Jones, pastor of a Fort Lauderdale church, sat on their front porch in Fort Lauderdale on Thursday wondering how a man could shoot two people and not go to jail.

Idiots like these grandparents are what amaze me. I'm sure they have all sorts of excuses for their grandson doing armed robbery and how it's not really his fault and that society made him do it, but they personally condemn a man who only acted to defend himself against criminals, and only then when *directly* threatened. Likely, if the two scumbags hadn't hassled him, they would still be alive and healthy and out on the streets.

It's a real mental illness.

Pilsbury Doughboy Kills Burglars

Some think Joe Horn when too far when he shot and killed two men he believed were burglarizing his neighbor's home.
From GMA Nov. 17, 2007

Texans are debating if a man who said he was defending his neighbor's property when he shot and killed two suspected burglars was within his rights.

Texas state law allows people to use deadly force in order to protect their property. And so far, Pasadena, Texas, resident Joe Horn has not been charged in the shooting deaths of Manuel De Jesus, 38, and Diego Ortiz, 30, earlier this week.

Horn, 61 ran out of his house when he suspected the men were attempting to burglarize his neighbor's home. He called 911 to alert authorities of the situation, and the conversation has been preserved on tape.

Joe Horn: Hurry up man. Catch these guys, will ya? 'Cause I ain't gonna. I'm gonna be honest with ya. I'm not gonna let 'em go. I'm not gonna let them get away with this.

The dispatcher begged him to wait for police instead of taking any action.

Horn: You hear the shotgun clicking and I'm going.

911 Dispatcher: Don't go outside.

On the recording, Horn can be heard threatening to shoot the men if they move.

Horn: Move, you're dead.

If vigilanteism is a crime in Texas, they'll lock his ass up for quite some time.

I am not arguing for or against the shooter, but that article you posted is seriously biased against him.

Here is an article with the entire transcript. http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2007/11/17/national/main3517564.shtml?source=mostpop_story

He called 911 and 5 minutes later the police hadn't arrived. he had a long conversation with the 911 person about not letting them escape after he saw them crawling back out of the window. He said he went out to make them stop and that they came towrd him when he yelled for them to stop (Move and your dead).

On the tape of the 911 call, the shotgun can be heard being cocked and Horn can be heard going outside and confronting someone.

"Boom! You're dead!" he shouts. A loud bang is heard, then a shotgun being cocked and fired again, and then again.

Yeah, he sounds like a nice man huh. So burglary carries a dealth sentence then huh?

thats what that article said, but others read that he said, Move and your dead. which makes more sense.

I have no sympathy for the burglars being dead. They invaded someone's home. they had no right to be there. If the guy gets prosecuted and the State wins, I won't be upset. Nor will I be upset if he is exonerated.

There is a phrase that used to mean a lot, but has lost most of its luster. Crime doesn't pay. It needs to mean something again.
