The residents of the State of Texas have set the bar for what constitutes legitimate use of deadly force. Agree or disagree with that law, I bet the guy will not be charged.

He was in no danger whatsoever - Tilt

Ohhh, Right, burglars - with prior drug convictions - carrying at least a prybar represents "no danger whatsoever"? What an unrealistic assessment. Reality is biased against YOU!

It amazes me that the self-hating liberals are quick to blame someone for defending property, but place NO blame on the CRIMINALS for breaking the damn law.

For every Walter Mitty magically transformed into Wyatt Earp, how many innocent people are shot every year?

I looked up the FBI numbers a few years ago and the results weren't good.  Justifiable shootings didn't fare well against all the accidents, murders, suicides, etc.

I have NO emotions for these scum. The best part about my life is I can screw with them AFTER they go to prison.

Personally there were things the police could have done. Take the gun into EVIDENCE, Have the gun misclassified and destroyed. Do not Mirandize the guy so any "confessions he makes are Inadmissable."

Screw up the case, throw enough mistakes and screw ups in the arrest that the DA will never pursue.

Paramedic shoots, then saves robbery suspect
Posted by Kim Crawford | The Flint Journal November 19, 2007 21:00PM
Categories: Clarkston, Crime, Grand Blanc, Grand Blanc Township, Independence Twp.
A Genesee County Sheriff's paramedic ordered an armed robbery suspect to drop his gun, shot him several times when he refused -- and then proceeded to save the suspect's life.

"Our deputy did what he was trained to do, protect the public and save lives," said Sheriff Robert J. Pickell said about the wounding early Monday of a Flint man suspected of robbing a store-gas station in Grand Blanc Township. The suspect then led police on a chase that came to a violent end in a subdivision near Clarkston in Oakland County.

"I'm proud of him," Pickell said of the paramedic.

The paramedic, a military reservist who has served with U.S. armed forces in Iraq, was one of several local law enforcement officers from Genesee County, including Grand Blanc Township and state police officers, who pursued the suspect down I-75 to Independence Township before state troopers knocked his SUV onto its side.

Pickell noted the paramedic is an expert marksman who has served as a sniper in the military.

"He shot the guy and then had the presence of mind to go get his bag and save the guy's life," Pickell said.

State police and Pickell on Monday did not release the name of the suspect, but said the man, about 28, has an extensive criminal record. The last available condition on the suspect was that he had undergone surgery at Genesys Regional Medical Center and was in critical condition.

The case began during a wild night in Grand Blanc Township that started about 1 a.m. Monday, when a township officer was injured in a hit-and-run accident on I-475 near Hill Road. That patrolman was taken to Genesys for treatment.

Those suspects ran and were arrested a few hours later in Grand Blanc Township. But when a township command officer was going to Genesys to visit the injured officer just before 3 a.m., he saw a truck fishtailing out of Fleck's Market on Holly Road near I-75, just as an armed robbery was reported.

Officers followed that vehicle south on the expressway and were attempting to stop it when it pulled into a rest area in Springfield Township. But state police said the suspect accelerated and got back on the highway.

Police said the man started to leave the expressway at the Dixie Highway exit, but swerved violently back onto I-75 when he saw police on the road ahead.

He exited at M-15 in Independence Township, and turned north when Oakland County Sheriff's deputies came toward him. About a 1/2 mile north of the expressway, the suspect turned into the Cranberry Pointe subdivision.

A state trooper used what it is called the "precision immobilization technique" or PIT maneuver, to strike the back of the suspect's SUV, knocking it onto it's side.

Officers approached and ordered the suspect, whom they could see moving about the truck with a handgun in his hand, to drop his weapon.

A trooper attempted to use a Taser to stun the suspect, but missed him. At that point the Genesee County paramedic also ordered the suspect, who was trying to get out of the vehicle, to drop the gun. When he didn't, the paramedic fired several shots, critically wounding him.

Police said money believed to have been taken in the armed robbery was recovered.

The shooting of the suspect is under investigation by state police, while Grand Blanc Township is handling the robbery investigation, police said.

In an odd footnote, Flint police were notified when one of the suspects in the original hit-and-run incident escaped from Hurley Medical Center late Monday afternoon, where he'd been taken for treatment for injuries he suffered in the crash that hurt the Grand Blanc Township officer.

Flint police officers caught that suspect and arrested him within about 30 minutes.

Because he actively sought a confrontation in which he was going to shoot to people.

I don't have any problem with a homeowner shooting an intruder in his own house, but making himself judge and jury is wrong - especially when it was only property at risk.

Y2, don't live in Texas then because under Texas law, people may use deadly force to protect their own property or to stop arson, burglary, robbery, theft or criminal mischief at night.

If your concern is risking life for property then maybe you should be talking to the criminals instead of someone following the law.

When did we get out of the mentality that JUSTICE is someone getting what they deserve?

I mean the scum were robbing the house. This wasn't an "OOPS I slipped and ended up in the house." It was a thoughtout coordinated effort by obviously life long wastes of human skin (oxygen abuse). They were PREDATORS...pure and simple. They were no less Predators than a vicious dog except that they had BRAINS and should have reconsidered their actions.

If as they were walking out of the door of their Scum hole someone had walked up and said,"If you rob House "A" you will be killed dead."

Is there anyone here who HONESTLY thinks they would have gone into the house?

Crimes are not prevented by PUNISHMENT but the certainty and swiftness of the Punishment.

If a guy decides to assault a person..or even one of these sexual offenders understands the chances are extremely good that IF caught he will be "disarmed" without anesthesia...would he do it? Well not more than once.

Maybe you boys should form your own death squads to fight crime. You can get capes and masks and stuff. Start with the young like they do in Brazil. You'd best get down the range as they'll be a small target.

Burglary = death sentence
Vandalism = death
Underage drinking = death
Spot a drink driver = shoot him
Teenager gets your mailbox = bullet in the head
J Walking = beat him to death with a bat

Better to kill a couple of men rather than have your neighbor have to make an insurance claim.

I wonder what the neighbor thinks - would you rather lose a few belongings or have had a couple of men killed on the front lawn?

people have no right to break and enter someone else's home. Anything that happens to them they brought on themselves. This man didn't go looking for the criminals. he saw them through the window of his home. He called the cops. The cops look at burglary like you fools do. let them file a claim we'll show up after the crooks are gone. People should fear illegally entering the residence of someone else. If this man is exonerated, then maybe criminals will start thinking twice about it.

Hyway - the only fool here is you (well and XL) - thinking you're running around fighting crime by killing people for burglary.

Sure, people have the right to defend their home, and a homeowner can feel genuinely threatened by a stranger trying to get into his house. I have no trouble with an individual protecting himeself, but this was nothing like that. Self-defence - fine, vigilante justice is something else altogether. Who the #&%!$ was this man to assume he has the right to pronounce a death sentence.

If this man is exonerated then you should go pick up some lycra and get the needle and thread out.

dude, as it is written Texas law allows him to do what he did. Or not, if I read correctly the new law hasn't been tested in court yet. And until I hear differently I don't believe he went out there to shoot them down. He went out there to stop them from leaving. If they chose to run or fight instead of waiting for the law, then they chose to be shot.

From the CBS Article:

But the legislator who authored the "castle doctrine" bill told the Chronicle it was never intended to apply to a neighbor's property, to prompt a "'Law West of the Pecos' mentality or action," said Republican Sen. Jeff Wentworth. "You're supposed to be able to defend your own home, your own family, in your house, your place of business or your motor vehicle."

A week ago, a woman emptied a clip into a guy that had been stalking her for weeks. He called her at work, home, followed her to and from, showed up on her front porch from time to time. She filed a restraining order, but it didn't work.

A week ago, he broke into her house and chased her into her bedroom. She locked that door then hid in her closet, grabing the phone and a 9mm that a neighboor had loaned her just that day. She called police and told them that an intruder was in her house.

He ended up breaking down her bedroom door and came at her while she was in her closet. She put 15 shots into his chest.

The story was big time news. A lot of people couldn't understand why she would do something so horrible. This is what I cannot understand about owning a gun and protecting yourself. This guy would have killed her and the public whould have been okay with it. She kills him and it becomes, "the slut probably had it coming."
