John Lovell is Alive Today
Two armed men barged into a Subway Sandwich shop shortly after 11 p.m., demanding money from the employee, behind the counter. When they tried to force John Lovell - the lone customer, age 71, into the bathroom, he pulled out a gun and shot both men, police said.

What is surprising is that the news reported this incident. Professor John Lott has shown by his academic studies that reports of use of firearms in self defense are grossly under reported by the American media.

A Potter Valley woman wounded herself and a man July 3 while attempting to kill mice with a .44-caliber Magnum revolver, according to the Mendocino County Sheriff's Office.

The woman, 43, had drawn the gun from a holster under her left arm, intending to shoot mice scurrying across the floor of a small travel trailer on Highway 20 in Potter Valley, according to the Sheriff's Office.

The revolver instead slipped from her hand and fired as it struck the floor, according to the Sheriff's Office.

The bullet went through the woman's right kneecap, then hit keys hanging on the belt loop of a 42-year-old man in the trailer, officials said. The bullet glanced off the keys and tore a hole in the man's pants.

The bullet grazed the man's groin before stopping in his coin pocket, where it was recovered for evidence, according to the Sheriff's Office.

That said nothing of her being an NRA member. I bet if she were and she took advantage of the many educational programs the NRA provides she would have known what role guns should play in our lives as free Americans. Mouse killer is not one of them. She was a victim of her own ignorance and justly so.

Guns save more lives than take them.

Doctors save more lives than take them.

Giving examples of doctors malpractice mistakes is as wasteful in a debate on the utility of modern medicine as giving gun owners mistakes in a debate about the utility of owning a firearm.

A 71-year-old College Hill preacher was convicted Monday of aggravated menacing for pointing a gun and cursing at a female driver who cut him off in a June 23 road-rage incident.

Thomas Howell, founder and preacher at First Commandment Church of the Living God in East Walnut Hills, was convicted Monday of the first-degree misdemeanor by Hamilton County Municipal Judge Brad Greenberg.

Howell was driving his car from his College Hill home to his church the morning of June 23. He turned at the intersection of Burnet and Forest avenues when, he testified, a car cut him off.

The other car was driven by April Evans, a cook at two local restaurants.

She testified the preacher pulled up alongside her car, pointed a gun at her, called her a name and asked if she knew who she was messing with before threatening to shoot.

The cars chased each other through parts of Clifton, Avondale and Walnut Hills.

"Every time I get in back of him, he would pull the gun out on me and point it towards me and whatever," Evans testified at Monday's trial.

"He said, 'You don't now who I am,' called me another (name) and said ... 'I'll shoot you.' "

Angry, she followed Howell's car. When it stopped by his church, she ran into a hardware store across the street and called 911.

When police arrived, Howell told them he had a gun - it was in a holster strapped to his hip - and he had a permit to carry it.

Howell denied to police and at Monday's trial that he ever pointed his gun at her. In fact, he said he never removed it from his holster that day.

Then how, the judge wondered, did Evans know that Howell - a man she'd never met before - had a gun.

"I think that the only reason Ms. Evans would know that (Howell) had a gun in the vehicle is that he pointed it at her," the judge said in finding Howell guilty.

Howell faces up to 180 days in jail when he is sentenced Sept. 4.

Montgomery County police last night charged the Bethesda teen at the center of a bombmaking probe with attempted carjacking, saying he knocked a 78-year-old man to the ground outside White Flint Mall last week and tried to steal his Chevrolet Geo Prizm.
[...]
Authorities say McKenzie-Gude kept assault rifles and bombmaking chemicals in his bedroom and had a list of home addresses for teachers at the school from which he recently graduated, St. John's College High in the District. McKenzie-Gude's attorney said the list was given to him by another student.

FedEx worker stole 146 guns to sell on the street, authorities say

A FedEx cargo handler stole 146 handguns from the Monmouth County facility where he worked and enlisted a friend to help sell the weapons at public housing projects in Jersey City and on the streets of Newark and East Orange, federal investigators said Tuesday.

The scheme began to fall apart when frustrated residents complained to Jersey City police, who then used a sting operation to capture the suspects, authorities said.

Federal agents are now trying to trace dozens of the stolen weapons, many of which they said were sold for between $300 and $500 each or traded for drugs.

"This is a huge number of guns. Our primary goal is to find out where the remaining guns are. We want them in our custody. We don't want them in the hands of criminals or gang members," said special agent Joseph Green, a spokesman for the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

so stupid that it just might work. Looks like the neighbors won't even have to do fundraisers for her, fannie mae will just give her the mortgage free and clear.

from the article:

In 2004, Polk took out a 30-year, 6.375 percent mortgage for $45,620 with a Countrywide Home Loan office in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio. The same day, she also took out an $11,380 line of credit.

Over the next couple of years, Polk missed payments on the 101-year-old home that she and her late husband purchased in 1970. In 2007, Fannie Mae assumed the mortgage and later filed for foreclosure.

Couple things here. She lived in the house for 34 years so I imagine it was paid off and she owned it free and clear. Why did she need both a new mortgage and a line of equity. Where did the money go? many times you have the children of the elderly taken advantage of them. another thing is how did a 86 year old woman plan on making loan payments. was she still working, or was someone supposed to be paying her back for the money she borrowed for them. Where was her family when she was going through foreclosure?

It would be nice to have more information about this other than just the horrible image of a very old woman wanting to take her life than move out of her house.

There are poor white people in this country too ya know. You do realize that ignoring the plight of one race in favore for another is racist, right? Of course you don't. Hey, could you recount for us once more about how you live in one of the most affluent neighborhoods in the nation while you try to show how "down with the poor man" you are? I think you may be confusing "affluent" with "effluent". Seriously though, you yourself have talked about the way all religious traditions mandate compassion toward the poor. Does one have to be poor to advocate for a decent social structure?
