Yes.   Ironic.

If they actually had to test that stuff from all over for safety it might begin to make economic sense to source more ingredients in-country.

      Hmmmmm.

(but when ya start talkin' about hotdogs, all bets are off!     LMAO)

I accidentally bought some fat-free hotdogs once.... GAK

smoked hog jowl

The jowl (which is pronounced "jole" in the South) is the hog's cheek. It's often cut into pieces and used to flavor stews.

Since Laurel's home for a snow day, I made her request: A grilled cheese with jam sandwich. She wanted peach jam, but we were out so I used strawberry instead. It was surprisingly tasty. She had that with hot (well, very warm) chai tea.

My house smells wonderful!

A huge pot of fresh homemade Veggie and Beef soup.

Lots of fresh celery, bell pepper, carrots, onion, squash, potatoes, and a bit of garlic. A couple of cans of Rolel with chiles, corn, green beans, and green peas.
With about a pound of stew meat. Slow simmered.

Yum yum!

I haven't found a Cuban restaurant around the Charlotte area yet. Mmmm, nicely marinated ropa vieja (yes it translates as "old clothes") y platanos con frijoles negros sounds really good right now.

i got up this morning an thought it was Wednesday. i had a customer lunch meeting so i got cleaned up and in good clothes before i realized my mistake. so instead i took a break from work and took the wife out for lunch. she had sushi and i had thai noodles and a glass of home-made ginger-pop. then we got some fried bananas with ice cream and split it between us.

this place makes it. i call it ginger pop because it doesn't taste like any ginger ale i hever tasted. it's a little sweet, more like iced tea, and it has a ginger aftertaste... slightly hot and perhaps peppery like candied ginger. it's really good.

Mmmm, dessert for lunch. I chopped up 4 apples that were sitting around here and tossed them with a little flour, sugar, cinnamon, cardamom, allspice, and a pinch of sea salt. I tore up 4 slices of bread (2 leftover oatmeal, 2 leftover pump/ rye swirl) and drizzled them with a little melted butter, then tossed with a titch of sugar, and cinnamon. I baked it at 400 for 20 minutes, then 15 more minutes at 340 degrees. Yum.
