remember all that hype about the rainforests and new organisms & enzymes there unlocking the key to diseases a few year back? hmmm. This all sounds familiar.

Well, if all else fails in Antartica, it's still a good place to put Marvin Gardens.

Actually, the IMAX movie "Amazing Caves" is all about junting for extremophiles. Then went all over the world, including ice caves in Greenland. Quite facinating research. IMAX rocks anyway.

I saw it last summer at the IMAX in Spokane. I don't think it is circulating any more.

I read the bios for the two women cavers. One of them said the IMAX producers were were looking for a young, female, Ph.D.research biologist, who was an experienced cave diver and looked like Sharon Stone. She said they got all but the last one.

Gee Whiz, Biz! They find valuable compounds out in the boonies all da time! What's that cancer drug they discovered in that treebark in the Pacific NW? HMMMMMMMM?

And don't forget Happy Fun Ball...

That sounds like a good one Phil, I'm sorry I missed it. Heck, I missed seeing the one about Everest, <GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR>!

Tilt - One of the faculty members here where I teach does research there. He studies the effects of altitude on mammals. It is one of the highest places you can actually drive to. Mel lives across the desert from there.

He wouldn't be the fellow studying Marmots, would he? <G>

I had that site bookmarked from a while ago. There was one particularly funny story there... I think the title was "My Sled Dog Ate the Microbes" (or similar), but I can't seem to locate it.

White Mountain looks to be a really "wild" location. Winter camping in North Carolina seems definitely tame by comparison --- until we get another 100-year storm.

Tilt - He was studying horses. They took some up to the research center for their research.
