I got a bunch of freeze dried meals (about 100) for $.94 each when planetoutdoors.com went out of business a couple years ago. I got some MSR, Mountain House and Backpackers Gourmet (yuck) thinking I could eat for years (they're all gone after 18 months). Also got a pair of Vasque Clarion Impact hiking boots from the same place for $23.

I also found a sawed-off shotgun in the back of some redneck's pickup truck. Hope he doesn't mind.

Sorry--that was backpacker's pantry. The lasagna really is nasty stuff. I've heard BP Gourmet is good but can't find it anywhere.

osprey crescent 90 $225 at northern mountain supply usually 429

oh yea, scenario g for the gun:
take the gun home, use it to commit a double murder yourself, since you're already gonna be charged with one, right? then take the gun to the police station and tell them you found it in the middle of the trail and let whoever's gun it really is deal with all the fun.
just a thought

Got my Whisperlite shaker jet stove for 50% off from a gear store going out of business. My only regret was that I didn't find out the store was going belly up til it was basically cleaned out.

Oh, and that a perfectly good gear store went belly up. (It was in the midwest, very few perfectly good gear stores in the midwest.)

When the new REI opened up in St. Louis I drive four hours just so I could drool over ungodly amounts of gor-tex.

best and cheepest gear
The best & cheepest gear is the gear you can make yourself. Not everyone can sew,so maybe you can bribe a grandmother, aunt or sis to help out.www.backpacking.net have a section on making your own gear.

Windwalker where can I find the Garcia Bear Canisters? The canisters I have seen were $70 to $80!!!!I don't think I could swing that,I like eating!
