The passing of Bob “It is with sadness in my heart that I announce to all my friends out there that Bob the Beta has passed away. For those who went on the Savage Gulf trip, you might remember that Bob could not go on the trip. Khatru was quite upset as they are practically inseperable. But I told him that Bob had to stay home, that he didn't have a backpack. But anyway, the other evening I noticed that Bob hadn't eatin his mosquito, and he loves misquito's. I called the vet, he said he didn;t see fish. So I asked him to refer me to a vet that did see fish, he called me a lunatic and to leave him alone as he was in the middle of sucking down a bottle of Scotch. Yesterday afternoon when I went home for lunch and found Bob on his side at the bottom of his bowl...He lives in a 1 1/2 gallon brandy snifter that I bought for him at Walmart. He looked up at me with his small round red eyes and I saw a tear roll down his cheek. It was such a sad moment, Khatru was visibly upset. We stayed with Bob all night and at 9pm he passed away. Khatru and I howled at the moon to speed Bob to Stovalcor. He was a good fish, never complained, never got crazy and never ate chicken bones or kleenex. Basically he was an all around good guy. He will be sorley missed. In true fish fashion, we all gathered around and gave Bob a burial at sea. He went around and around and then at the last moment before dissappearing, I'd swear he turned and waved one last time with his fin. Bob will always be remembered in our hearts and minds...all who knew him were touched by his gentleness...I am a more complete person for knowing Bob.” 3:01:46 PM 4/12/02 “Stikmon, my sister has a Beta that she keeps in the same Wal-mart Brandy snifter. Weird. Sorry to hear about the fish death.” 3:07:42 PM 4/12/02 tears in my eyes “Thanks NewGirl, Iwillpass your thoughts onto Khatru. I forgot to say that Bob came into our lives 13 months ago. I guess that that is good for a beta. I really don't know, but he really thrived and got big and colorful.” 3:21:33 PM 4/12/02 “Wow! That is way good for a Beta. My sister has gone through about 6.” 3:23:36 PM 4/12/02 Bob was a good eater “He would tear into Mosquitos that Khatru and I would catch for him...pratically jumping out of the water...lately he wasn't eating very good, so I knew the writing was on the fishbowl. But everymorning he used to wag his body and wait for his food. He was a good fish, always joyful and full of life.” 3:31:36 PM 4/12/02 “I used to have a beta that I kept in a brandy snifter from Wal-Mart. Ummm...the beta was also from Wal-Mart. He was so joyful and full of life that he jumped out of his bowl and suffocated while we weren't home to save him. He had never done that before. He will never do that again. He was sorely missed by the cat.” 4:06:27 PM 4/12/02 “Hopefully you gave him a proper flushing.” 4:37:06 PM 4/12/02 “Yep, nothing but the best!” 4:39:32 PM 4/12/02 “My wife has a Beta in a glass container with a plant growing out of the top of it. The roots hang down in the water and that's where the Beta hangs pout, in the roots.” 4:43:50 PM 4/12/02 “i put brandy in my brandy snifter from wal mart. sorry i had to. someone was gona do it sooner or later anyway, right?” 5:19:23 PM 4/12/02 Josh “your a cold hearted fiend...did yo save some brandy for the canoe trip?” 5:23:56 PM 4/12/02 “Sorry to hear about Bob. I remember you speaking about Bob. Sounded like a good guy. Almost felt as though I knew him myself. We had a Goldfish named Mo. Mo started getting all these iflated looking places comming out of body. His face even swelled up. He kinda looked like Eric Cartman on South Park. We spent nearly $60 on stuff trying to save him. We got him used and lived with us for almost 3 years. He got the same kind of burial at sea that Bob got. My sympathies go out to you and Khatru. LONG LIVE BOB!!” 8:39:04 AM 4/13/02 Fitting for a fish 8:52:38 AM 4/13/02 “very appropriate, Pathman” 9:08:34 AM 4/13/02 “Jill, I remember the very first time I ever saw you. I fell in love with you then and there. I couldn`t take my eyes off of you, it was like we were meant to be together. I was working out of town re-doing the foundation of a house and I saw you over the fence in the next yard out playing by the clothesline. You didn`t see me at first, but I saw you and I couldn`t help but sneak up to the fence for a better look at you. I loved to watch you play and the way the sunlight shone in your beautiful brown eyes. I was happy just to watch you having fun. I knew I had to have you. I remember my first words to you as I tried to get you to notice me and the surprised look you had when you first saw me. I never will forget that, I couldn`t help but laugh. So young and full of life, our time together was just to short. I was right Jill,.. you were the best bird-dog a man could ever dream to spend time with. Jill, you will be missed, but never forgotten,...” 10:56:34 AM 4/13/02 “I killed my wifes bird!!!” 11:06:17 AM 4/13/02 “I might have had to take Bob's soul by ingesting his worldy body- Khatru-my heart goes out to you as Dad could have given you a bite too. Make him dig you a Koi pond-you can sing to the big fish then.” 11:36:35 AM 4/13/02 Our thanks “go out to each and every one of you out there in the great unknown of Cyberspace. Your words have given additional substance to Bob's existence and they have eased the pain of our loss (Khatru has been a wreck all weekend). I raise a glass and toast to the memory of "Bob", may you find the path to the great ocean (or river) where your great ancestors came from...swim on Bob, swim on...” 5:46:20 PM 4/14/02 “I had a beta when I lived in the dorms, we called him Little Bastard. He was a rowdy little fish, he tried to drink green beer with us on St. Patrick's day, but the little fella couldn't hang. He got alcohol poisoning and died that night. I guess you shouldn't let fish drink and swim.” 11:27:40 PM 4/15/02 “That's Funny!” 5:55:19 AM 4/16/02 hey bear “I had beta in college, his name was Illuvitar. Don't ask...anyway, I got drunk, passed out and my "best" friend poured beer in the bowl, another friend kept Illuvitar alive by pushing him around with his finger, till he sobered up, he lived another 9 months or so, and just died...I've missed him ever since, that's why Bob was so dear, he reminded me of a time long ago, with another fish, that was my friend. OH DA PAYNE!!!!!!!!!!!!!” 12:18:04 AM 4/17/02 “I say, celebrate his life and passing with a good fish fry and lots of tatar sauce! And beer!” 11:53:57 PM 4/17/02 “That would be TARTAR, sauce. 'Course, taters ain't bad with fish, either!” 12:05:03 AM 4/18/02
