I know they are pros & cons on both styles of packs and this has been discussed many times but I just thought I would ask this questions.
Do you use a external or internal pack. No explantation needed.

I have one of each.
I prefer my Dana Designs K2 Longbed external frame.

It's gotta be internal. An external would be a pain the *&^% getting snagged on all the scrub.

Tried and army surplus "Alice" pack it sucked, then a Coleman composite frame, great pack, very quite but didnt hold up too well (stress at the seams) then bought a Kelty Super "T" very noisy, now I use a internal frame, hot on the back but I love it.

laqtis....
i have two of the coleman peak one packs with injection molded plastic frames....i used the first one from 1981 until just last summer....i agree with you....they are as comfortable and flexible as an exterior frame pack can be....

but then i tried an internal frame....

there's no going back now!!

internal all the way!!

Depends
Internal since 1987.

I've been using a VauDe Aeroflex Tour 60 for about six months.
Its a good size, 60 l/3600 in, and its a hybrid.
The frame is partly external.

I'll never(say never) go back to having a "roof rack" strapped to my back.

Internal. And it's nice to hear someone else has a VauDe pack, TomT. Mine's the Grand Canyon from the H20-Proof series.

But I'm leaning more toward Sgt. Rock's pov -- get it light enough to go to minimal frame or none. My JanSport Dart Frog "day" pack has a very thin, flexible framesheet and is very comfortable with a 20# load. For warm weather, I think I could make it work as an overnight or weekend pack if I commit to ultralight.

pekka-
The Aeroflex frame curves the pack away from the back for a bit of ventilation.

This thing is only 3600 in and carries 40# rather well.
40# is now my limit.

The bigger the pack, the more schit I carry.

RE: Aeroflex
Tom T., the first VauDe packs I saw with that venting arch in the suspension were their cycling day/hydration packs. My Grand Canyon has a venting column up the middle between two padded ridges and handled the 80+ degrees of Badlands pretty well for an internal.

I've used an internal since about 1980, when I got my first serious multiday backpack.

Tom T needs an internal to safely carry all that single malt Irish whiskey he brings along. ;o)

Great pack.

But...I have been thinking of getting an external for hiking in the summer. Any reccomendaations for a good external @3500cuin and under $100.00.

Can we vote more than once?

Yo, Pennsy!
I hope I didn't make a drunk outta you.
I'm going to WVa 4/26,27,28.
I haven't missed a monthly trip since the Adirondacks in January.
Last year I had nine months running with at least one bag night.
This year I'm going for BACKPACKING each month in addition to some car camping trips.

pekka-
I'm considering getting a VauDe Galaxy tent......I'd(my boys) better do something nice for Mother's Day and maybe I can slip it into the Great Wall Of Gear.

I didn't vote because I haven't gotten a pack yet. I go Monday to be sized for a rental pack that I will be using in 2 weeks. I figure that it will be a internal pack and I want to rent a external before I make up my mind on which way to go.
I have read the innie and outie thread also about packs and everything else it went off on...lol
