We haven't gone yet. That date will be next week. But now he just found out he's being deployed to Afghanistan. Just when I found a good one.

Went on a weekend canoe trip with inlaws and two of their friends. For one woman this was her first "wilderness" experience, and the organizer deliberately did not tell her that she would have to dig catholes. She took it stride, (but we were wondering how she would respond.)

see cold mountain here

i don't think I need to date someone who hikes and backpacks, but I do need someone who will put up with the time I spend out in the wilderness.

ChicagoMark, Canoe trips are awesome! I hope she goes on another trip some day even with having to pee/poop in the wilderness.

It was a canoe trip to the wilderness in Canada that made me decide that I would much prefer do this sort of thing with a "significant other" than without. On that particular trip I was with my dad and brother. Even though it was a great week, it just was not the trip it could have been.

Shawn, I haven't seen the movie. Perhaps I should.

All my canoe trips have been with my wife (others were along, sometimes).

Been to Quetico three times, each for a week. Not long enough.

Other shorter trips.

Cool Mark! We are going to either Quetico or Woodland Caribou again this summer, just don't have the dates planned yet. Check out Woodland Caribou if you like solitude. That park is further north and even fewer people utilize it. During out trip there last summer, we saw one other group of people on a portage, and that was it. It's immense and remote and not visited very often by humans. Now bears and moose and loons, that's another story.
