‘Earnhardt Day’ slated in Alabama

April 21, 2002
4:07 PM EDT (2007 GMT)

TALLADEGA, Ala. -- Before Sunday’s NASCAR Winston Cup Series Aaron’s 499, Alabama Governor Don Siegelman proclaimed April 29 as Dale Earnhardt Day in Alabama to honor the late racing legend and his family and provide citizens of Alabama a day on which to remember the seven-time NWCS champion. "Dale Earnhardt was a hero on and off the race track,” Siegelman said. “His passion lives on through his family and his tenacity will always be remembered in Alabama.”

yes sir, it is. Bill Elliot handled the track pretty well before restrictor plates came around. Take them off and let 'em run.

Yup, I do love this place. I live 15 minutes away. I'm not a racing fan, but I do love the area.

Sweet home, Alabama, where the skies are so blue... and it's 110 degrees in the summer, and 200% humidity, and the friggin' ticks are so big you can throw saddles on 'em. I just love getting out of the shower with the feeling I'm still in it! I love the people here, but the weather sucks!

The weather does suck from May til mid September. October to April are great.

Where are you from Father Goose?

Rick and Bubba are retards. They spread their childish and ignorant views all over the country. They should both be retired and given electroshock therapy.

BUT, I love NASCAR. Michael should have knocked Jr. in the tail and passed him, but he wasn't MAN enough.

I'll bet hot and dry is different than hot and wet, bama hiker. It's like Robin Williams said in Good Morning Vietnam. Hot and wet is okay when you're with a woman, but it ain't no fun when you're in the jungle.

Texas heat is 10 times better than alabama heat...in Texas you can still be comfortable when it's 120...you wanna die here when it's 78, someone help us when it hits 90!

Allwoman...that's what the radio dial is for..use it...at least we don't have bubba the love sponge around here...even i have a breaking point

A Kansas story....
I spent the summer of 1979 in Great Bend, KS. One morning, my buddy (also from Alabama) and I stepped out on the front porch. What temperature do you think it is, asks I. Oh, upper 80's, maybe 90, answers my friend. A nice day, plenty of sun, no cloud.

We got in the van and drove downtown. The time/temperature clock read 114F. Even if it was 10% high, it was still over 103F.

Hi, dayhiker. I'm originally from San Diego, in the Peoples' Republik of Kalifornia.

I was out camping with the Scouts this weekend, we were about 50 miles north of Houston. At 6:30 on Sunday morning it was 78 degrees and 89% relative humidity. Summer has arrived early in South east Texas.

MSNBC announced a confirmed case of mad cow disease in Alabama. Details were to follow later this afternoon. Oh joy.
