Do people need a weapon while in the BWCA?

Is this because Nimblefoot is back in WhizzConSin?

No I don't need one in the bwca. It's all points between here and there I like to have one. I don't need to tell you how many weird-os you come across on a two thousand mile road trip.

So how do you prepare for self defense if you have to keep your pistol locked up?

Same way we hunt deer
Run 'em over with your car. While they're laying there, load your gun and shoot 'em.

I've done lots of road tripping since 1974 and never had the desire to carry a weapon nor have I ever found myself in a fire fight on the road where a weapon would have been needed.

"I don't need to tell you how many weird-os you come across on a two thousand mile road trip."

Maybe you do need to tell me............on second thought, maybe I don't want to know.

I rode through Wisconsin years ago but Nimblefoot must have been out to sea or something otherwise there might have been trouble.

I was once on a road trip from Detroit to Washington DC. While at a gas station a stranger got in the face of the driver of our vehicle, screaming and yelling that he had jumped in line and impeded the flow of the gas station. It was quite a scene and the driver just let him stand there and vent. At no time did the driver get angry or crazy even though the spittle from the agitated person was hitting him in the face. After a while the madman wound down and left, at which time the driver turned to us and said "The liberals would be proud of me, at no time did I feel the need to draw my weapon and shoot him for spitting in my face". With that we jumped in the car, adjusted our legal to carry sidearms and continued on to DC for a second amendment rally on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial. 5 of us were carrying at the time and none of us drew our weapons.

It is better to have and not need than need and not have.

I suppose those of a certain stature are just natural born victims and likely to be picked upon.

I have never heard of the Lincoln Memorial referred to as Irony, I suppose Lincoln himself was kind of irony what with his upright posture and such, and he does sit straight in his marble chair so I suppose one could say he is irony. I think I will just call it the Lincoln Memorial. Thanks for that point of view though.

He's not a gunman till he shoots somebody, until then he is just carrying a gun.

If you see a guy on the street and he has a hammer do you assume he is a carpenter?

If you see a guy on the street with a monkey wrench do you assume he is a plumber?

A gun is just an inanimate object until it is used for good or ill.

"The liberals would be proud of me, at no time did I feel the need to draw my weapon and shoot him for spitting in my face".

The cops would have been proud of him, too.
Otherwise they would have been hip-deep in paper work busting a fool who would shoot someone for sputtering in spitting in their face.

For those of you who think spitting is nothing to worry about...

I was working at the University of Minnesota's hospital once and the campus police stopped by to inform us that a patient who had been trespassed from the hospital had been spotted on site. This patient was known to us and he had a chronic life threatening condition that was highly communicable if delivered properly. The delivery system you might ask? Human spit. If this guy spit on you, you got the disease, it was disfiguring and altogether disgusting. Long term effects were potentially life threatening. Since we knew the hospital campus better than the campus police each security officer teamed up with a police officer to begin our search. Before we left the Lt in charge of the search looked at us all and said, "This person is known to threaten to spit on people, if he covers his stoma (a small tube implanted in the trachea to allow breathing) he is preparing to spit. If he covers his trachea, deadly force is authorized." I was the person who found him sitting in a heated bus shelter smoking dope, laughing at all the fuss he had caused. When I stepped around the corner I had my ASP collapsed in my hand. I looked at him and he saw the uniform and his hand moved towards his throat. I flipped out my ASP and took a step towards him. I told him that if his hand moved another inch closer to his stoma I was going to hit him as hard as I possibly could on the side of his head with my baton. He never budged and at that moment my partner came around the corner with his gun drawn and about a week later I received a commendation from the chief of campus police for my actions.

The moral of the story? Spit has been used as a deadly weapon in the past and can be viewed as a deadly weapon if the situation warrants it. For the most part, spit should not be considered a deadly weapon, but if someone ever spit in my face I would use non lethal force to make them stop and be pretty safe in the knowledge that court precedents have been established to cover my actions.

Never said that, I just don't believe your gas station incident would justify a summary execution by a guy who just happened to be packin' heat.

Mutt, licks his balls in public..........again.

I'm British and proud of it. I'm living and working in America and paying my taxes and I like to think contributing to being here.

What is it about this that makes you feel so threatened? It's a new world out there - people move from country to country - this is only going to continue. You may not like it, but you need to accept it. Even now there are Americans living and working outside your little town, even your state, even your country.

If you're envious then maybe you just need to go out and make some changes in your own life.

But then again, you're not really trying to make any point at all are you - you're just trying to push my buttons.

If it helps you let go of some of that poison inside you then carry on.

If you're not a citizen, don't be trying to change American policy. I don't care how many taxes you pay. Terrorists pay more than you do when you pay your taxes in an effort to bring down the country. Based on ideas you've pressed here, there is no reason to think your agenda is any different.

This isn't supposed to be a socialist country. It's capitalistic. Deal with it or get out.

Come on Sarge - be honest with yourself and everyone else for once in your life.

It's not about me being am American citizen or not - it's about me not agreeing with your extremist point of view.

It's interesting seeing you just stumbled across the point of view seeing you didn't mention it for the first - what is it - two or three years you were here.

Not socialist -Count the socialist bases all over the world. What the hell is Ron Paul talking about? I guess the socialist giveaway of money to save the makebelieve capitalist , that have a high bankruptcy until they get into taxpayer funded contracts, is healthy capitalist behavior?
