In and Out at Lost Cove (ECT) May17

“Cabana Boy and Roots have talked my non hiking, but loves car camping, daughter to go to Lost Cove with us May 17. We're going to do an in and out rather than the loop.

Anyone interested in joining us?

I'm not up to much heavy hiking yet and I'm sure i can do that much.”

“Baume, Lost Cove is just south of Gandfather Mountain. The map is the Wilson Creek Area Trail Map.

“thanks ghost, i just ordered one. don't know if we will make it but it is a possibility.

is everyone going in on friday the 17th? how dangerous of a night hike would it be if we got there a little later? is everyone staying only one night? if so, is there loop possibilities for a two nighter from the first camp?”

“I'll get there Fri late afternoon and will stay 2 nights. The Lost Cove Trail is a 7.5 loop that can be easily dayhiked or be a 2 night backpacking trip.

This is actually a loop trail. My gang is doing an in and out. Friday to Sunday.

Baume, I wouldn't do this as a night hike, but Skiracer, Swiss Miss and rolex did the worst and longest part at night.”

Send me info on this hike, I'm going to be in the Smokies during that time frame. Day hikes and a overnighter backapcking trip out of Cades Cove. Is this Lost cove the one that runs part way along the AT?”

“baume, 1511 doesn't end at the parking area. We are doing an in and out coming in CLOCKWISE. If you do the loop counterclockwise it's the long way and can be a buttbuster at night (heck even during the day).

email ghost. There is another trail in, which is what he's doing (I think) since he's coming in later as well.”

“baume, I take take I-40 to exit 105 in Morganton and head north on NC-18, then in Morganton take NC-181 north to the Blue Ridge Parkway, then north on the Parkway to NC road 1511 milepost 307.9 and turn right.

If you want to take the trail I'll be using, let me know and I'll email the directions.”
