I was going to say the guttural croak of a raven as it picks eyeballs and flesh from my corpse in the backcountry, but of course I would be dead and it wouldn't be that enjoyable after all. Alternatively, I will say the scream of a peregrine falcon just before it punctures my skull with its talons because I am too close to its nest!

Is a grouse the same thing as a quail?

We used to hear lots of owls skiing at night in Fairbanks. Most of it was on a trail next to the Army base. We figured it was the guys out for night/winter training spying on us. I know some were real though, most active in the spring.

It would for sure be the elusive and really seen pipsquack bird. Followed by the redtail and loons.

Ravens I have heard are one of the most vocally diversified birds with upwards of 20 something different sounds.

Pipsquack!

I was staying with a buddy of mine in Cape Cod, and he was telling me there were a lot of coyotes in his area, which is very wooded. A few months ago when I was up there, we went on the internet and recorded sounds of rabbits in distress, and blasted them through a boombox on his back porch. No coyotes came, but at least half a dozen great horned owls started hooting at us, and coming closer. We saw a huge one land in a tree in his backyard, we could see it in the moonlight. We were so stoked that we lured one in, and before we knew it, another one swooped in and the two started fighting! It was nuts, they must have been getting territorial over the alleged "rabbit". I'll never forget it.

If you have never heard a rabbit scream, it is really "hare" raising. Squirrels too.

Yeah, it's a creepy sound. Crazy M, if you have woods nearby, give it a shot! I was amazed at how many owls we lured in. It was unreal. Especially when those two started going at it with eachother. It was really awesome to watch.

Although, never heard of the six-pack version.

I heard the cheeseburger bird at San Gorgonio but it had a extra syllable, it was saying veggie burger.

The grouse is bigger than a quail. The males are colorful, the females are dull. They make a sound like blowing on the top of a coke bottle.

I love the sound of hawks, ospreys, falcons, and eagles. It always means it's time to break out the binoculars and watch the foodchain in action. Owls are cool too, but too often it's night and I can't locate them. I cant believe anybody would like seagulls; they are rats with wings.
