PLEASE HELP! Summer Trip to West
Hi I'm new to the board, and I have a question for everybody. I live in Lawrence, KS and I want to plan a summer trip for around late may/early june but we can't go anywhere that requires techinical hiking, such as crampons etc, as we have a newbie with us. We would like to go somewhere cooler than KS in the Summer, and that is about 15-18 Hrs. away. No place is exluded except for heading east.

Make it memorable. A quality outing. Not necessarily a climb, or something with grand vistas. Something with a lot of color and cool winds. A variety of wildlife and vegetation. An expedition to experience all living things. Flowers, trees, wildlife, and friends. Creation up close.

What about Yellowstone?

Asteen 80, glad to see you on the site. I'm in Larryville, also.
Do you want mountains, canoeing, desert, forests....? I will check in to see what comes of this.

I've been to Rahwah Wilderness, west of Fort Collins, Co. 3 times. It's been a couple of years so I'm not sure if it's getting over used. The first and second time there, eons ago, it was a gravel road the last 5 miles or so. Last time, there was a paved road.
There's no technical climbing, but some altitude gains if you want them. Or you can hike the vallies and still have a GREAT time.
