Backpacking Related Threads Only...

Back during the last presidental election the political threads outnumbered the hiking threads. It was rediculous!! I could see 1 or 2, maybe even 3 but not 30 or 40 threads dealing with the same stupid thing!
At that point I wish people would go to a different fourm.”

“Many moons ago, somebody here once brought up the point that when hiking with a group of friends, the topics of conversation vary greatly. I've always viewed TT as sort of a virtual campfire, but of course a healthy dose of backpacking related subjects are needed to add feul to the real fire!”

If you bring up a backpacking subject here you often get a response that the subject has been covered and that you should search the threats. Is there some secret reason it can’t be discussed again? It is a little annoying to have several threads the same subject at once other than that what’s the problem? No one is forcing you to participate.

I don’t bother to read most of the political or religion threads here. I didn’t come here to get in a fight and if I see a fight I have a hard time staying out of it. I don’t indulge in adult beverages so the beer and booze topics are wearisome. How about a “where do you hang you gun and cell phone while drunk nude hiking thread”?”

How many times can we go in semantics circles before we get too dizzy and fall down? Sure, I'm guilty of contributing to off-topic posts but I make a point of never starting a redundant thread and there seems to be a #&%!$load of that going on here, primarily from trolls who contribute little else to the board. All I'm saying is, I would appreciate it if a) trolls would stop being trolls (which isn't going to happen) and/or b) people ignore these asswipes knowing that their whole deal is they get a rise from negativity and disruption.

“I've been backpacking since I was 10, I've been alive for 34 years. I come here because none of my day to day friends backpack, I enjoy their company because they are different than me. I enjoy this board because you folks and I share a common activity. We have different opinions on things though.

I love the outdoors, I like external packs, I see the value of down but I can't justify spending that much on a bag. I own 1 tent and when the weather is right I don't bring it. My favorite part of bp'ing is just after I get to a camp and get to soak it in. I'm summer as opposed to winter. I've said pieces of that on multiple threads multiple times. What more backpacking stuff can be added to this site?”

“I am a very new bper and have very limited experience. I don't own alot of gear and due to financial constraints, don't spend alot of time considering what gear to buy. So, thus far I don't have too much to contribute to "on-topic" discussions. I'm interested in learning from some experienced bpers w/ lots of gear, but I have other interests as well. For instance, I'm a single mom, I'm a college student, I'm a sec. for a lumberyard, I have basically liberal political views, I enjoy foriegn travel, I am an avid reader, I like NPR and PBS, etc. I guess if I was a one-dimensional person, then talking only about bping would be fine, but . . .
