I can't find my dagnab swiss army knife!
So my Swiss appears to have dissappeared, I'm half-heartbroken... My scuzzy ex brother in-law gave it to me, and it was kinda beat up so I kinda hate it now anyway... so what are your opinions on a pocket knife/tool (my only real requirement is a can opener)

I have a Gerber multiplier. I like having tools for tent/backpack repair.

How about a leather Swiss man? Seems like I remember something like that coming out of the ice in Swiss Alps about 10 years ago... Don't know if it would be good for anything around the campsite, though...

I like my older Supertool because it was free. A little heavy but worth weight when absoluted need. What I dislike about it is when in the plier mode it can be uncomfortable to squeeze unlike the Gerbers I've seen.

LOL at Phaedrus! If you felt that would be good for something around the campsite I'd worry about you man

I've got a Leatherman minitool and a small SA knife. They complement each other pretty well, so I carry them both.

Ahh Italian alps - My bad. Then again, he would probably be better company around a campfire than some people I've camped with. That's useful!

I don't want no animals gnawing at my privates and prostate!

Most useful of my various multi-tools is my Leatherman Micra, with scissors instead of pliers. Tiny, light, always with me. I have a SA Spartan that has a corkscrew...that has been the most used tool on that item.

I have a Swiss Army with a can opener and a bottle opener. I've had it for 10 years now and the only thing I wish it had that it doesn't is a corkscrew.

I had a sa camper (I think it was the camper) it had a corkscrew... I really loved it, until my brother in law became a father to another womans child (He gave Swiss Army knives to all the ushers with our names engraved in them)... I may get another one, but I thought I'd actually post a gear thread

swiss/gerber/leatherman/bucktool
I, being a maintenance man for a company that buys me ANY tool i may need, haveowned all of these mutitools. While they all had features that I liked, The Swisstool is for sure my favorite. i broke 2 bucktools(I am hell on them) & also i broke 1 gerber. The swiss is tougher, which is what I need for me.

My vote goes to the Leatherman Wave. It's pretty tough to beat as far as multi plier tools go, and the best things about it are there are no sharp corners when using as a plier, and I don't have to unfold it to extract a knife blade. All one handed operation. Stay away from the Gerber, they are hand pinching SOB's.

Just make sure you buy a Victornox brand swiss tool or knife. 100% lifetime guarentee. Birch busted the pliers on his, prying shotgun shells apart or something. He'd had the thing for ten or eleven years and they sent him a brand new, shiney upgraded model. May cost a few extra dollars (I think he paid $80 for the tool a few years back) but that guarentee is worth it if you actually use the thing. All ya have to do is keep yourself from losing it and your good. =)

I myself have a swiss knife with altogether too much crap on it. I think it's the camper. All I really want is tweezers, knife, saw, scissors and can opener. What the heck do I want with a rabbit hook or whatever it is?!

how about Colonial?
I've had the same Colonial forest master(their name) in my front right pocket every day for 31 years,, I use it every day, and it's had plenty of abuse,, I'm so bad nobody asks if I have a knife they can use,, they just ask "where is it?" . It's a simple 4 blade everybodies used to but way too overlooked these days,, and I bet I'd get kicked out of school too, though I used it there too.

Victorinox Swiss army knife was my 15 yr anniv gift from work. For the 20 yr gift, it was necklaces, crystal, and everything I didn't need. I asked for another knife (switch the 15 yr jewels to the 20 yr jewels) and they gave it to me. I would like to cut off some of the extra tools I never use on it. It weighs 3.4 oz. I tie a hot pink cord to it with a thermometer so I don't lose it.
